Mit M.i.t.e.s???

high school students...beause im a HS junior...well i'll be a senior in the fall

http://web.mit.edu/mites/www/

The link about MITES doesn't seem to work now.

Do you have to be black or indian to attend or are there students with asian and white races that are admitted as well ?

I take it you will not find white males in attendance - correct?

The link worked fine for me, not sure what the problem could be.

Hey? what's wrong with white males? Oh, crap, I shouldn't have said that now a flame war will insue. It better not! I'll defend every point and contridict myself until any such thing is d-e-d dead.

Well, that was rather pointless.

There will be white males. Admittance is not just about being a minority, its more about overcoming obstacles to get to where you are.

That sounds very good.

After all, it is really about appreciating obstacles and overcoming them.

there were a few white males.

dsilva did you go to MITES?!?

yesss. why do you ask? any questions about it?

o i was just wondering what year you went? i went this past summer; MITES '07, the best year lol

2006! oh yeahhh

I am applying for the 2009 MITES program. I have a 4.0 GPA, take PreCalculus PreAP, Physics I PreAp, US History AP, Spanish IV AP, Biology II AP, English III AP, and Chemistry II AP. I am hispanic. I have a 4.0/4.0 GPA and rank 2/421. But, I have a low PSAT/SAT score, 58/570. Does anyone think it will matter with my other information?

58/570? Your PSAT is 58 and your SAT is 570? Huh...

Maybe 1580/1570?

My PSAT MATH is 58 and SAT MATH is 570, individual, not total. Total: PSAT: 179; SAT: 1830 (I know its really bad, I'm not good at timed tests) Sorry about the obscurity

Oh. Last year one student had an 1800 on the SAT (not sure about her PSAT), and she was one of the more amazing individuals. I would definitely still apply.

you sound just like me when i was applying to MITES! My stats were similar to yours and i was also a bit nervous about my tests scores but i gave it a shot and made it. So my advice to you is not to worry about the things that you can't change but rather take great care on the things that you can (eg Essay--- very important).

I am Hispanic, but on essay 3 (How has your racial or ethnic identity affected your academic development? How has it influenced your aspirations?) I talked mostly about how I have been discriminated as Muslim in Post 9-11 US. On my last essay (Please describe a personal, social, or academic challenge you have faced and overcome) I talked about having seizures (complex partial, not bad) since seventh grade. I wrote how I used to have them every two weeks, but now since my new medication I haven't had one in six months. I can't drive, loose memory (including about school/even when I do't have seizures), become tired (I mentioned this in more detail). Do yo think they'll freak out and not let me in because of my history of seizures?? Should I e-mail them about it?

simplyjuil:
No worries mate! If anything happens during MITES, you'll be taken to MIT medical and beside, MITES requires you to have a medical check before you can attend. You're in safe hands.

So you don't think they won't allow me to attend because of seizures? Do you think it will turn them off?

They won't be turned off, your fine and don't stress about it. All the best!
