April 1st haha this is my 8th aniversity of comming to the states haha
horrible date to immigrate to the U.S lol you don;t know what the hacks going on and they just keep fooling you,, yeah i remeber being scared and dazed... well anyways..

Guys I need some advice....
I got into a program called SSP (Summer Science Prgoram) and I really want to attend this prgram but I would rather attend MITES if I get in at MITES..
well here is the problem,,, the acceptance email says I HAVE to email SSP back within a week and send some extra information to confirm wheter I am attending the camp or not..... and I am afraid that I will not be able to hear back from MITES before April 8th (which is a week from today) ..... which means I have to make the decision on whether I am attending SSP or not w/o knowing whether I got in to MITES
....... so.... what should I do? haha help me out here... and I don't want to lie to SSP and tell them I am going and then not go,, that will be ruining an opportunity for another student....

But one idea is to call or email MITES to let them know about this situation and ask them if I can find out my acceptance earlier.

yeah. I would recommend contacting MITES and letting them know your situation. Also consider contacting SSP and asking for more time to inform them of your decision.
Congratulations!

Is there a deposit or something associated with attending SSP?

If not I don't see why you can't just let them know that you'll be going and change your mind if you get into MITES. Kind of along the lines of getting off the wait list at a college; they let you know after the national reply date.

Oh and by the way, this is very random, but I just found my acceptance to MITES from last year and it was dated the March 23rd. Now obviously it's a while past the 23rd so you guys may be hearing back soon lol.

My spring break is over so it's time to focus on logarithmic differentiation :)

and yyoon..
you can do three things:
1. You can wait to see if you will get the letter from MITES until the day before you need to reply to SSP (although this is cutting it close) and then if you don't get the letter then you can notify SSP about accepting their offer.
2. You can confirm your acceptance to the program, and then decline once you get the letter from MITES, i'm sure they're going to have some sort of list of people they can call if others decline.
3. You can call the MITES program and tell them of the predicament you are in and hope that they will tell you about your acceptance in to the program or not.

oooo.....I'm exactly in the same predicament as yyon is in....and i picked number two from sakura......I'm waiting to hear back from Los Alamos National Laboratory....and some of other summer programs, but I guess I could see and try if I can do two summer research programs in one summer...Did anybody ever done two summer programs, like one summer program ends, then go somewhere else to start another summer program?

wow lots of comments
thanks for all the ideas guys,
sorry for the late reply,,, just got back from work.

Jules13 and Narcissa: I heard back on March 17th? or somewhat like that but that's because I sent my application early. the feb 28th deadline.

rosee09- thank you for the idea. I think I will call MITES and explain to them my situation,

Friedrice- haha I am sure you have a great chance of getting in to MITES even with me in the application pool / and keep your head up man and be optimistic echoing "lzhang"

Akybaky- yeah there is a deposit,,,, and if I decide not to go too late, a different student will lose the admission and also the full financail aid I received. and I would hate that to happen.

Sakura17- thankyou, #1 does sound risky, haha #2. i really don't want to do that.....

3. yeah i want to do that

Wildchartmge- yeah i have done that last year.

One quick question, does MITES ever answer their phone?
and what time should I call them..?

actually everytime I've called MITES out of the 3 times that I called, someone was there. I called in the afternoon if that helps. But make sure you call before 5 pm, or they won't be there. It was quite a while ago when I called them, so they might just be too busy with the applications to deal with calls.

Its true that they don't reply to emails, its much better to call-only if they pick up the phone though.
Has anyone been able to contact MITES recently(last week or so)?
