MIT Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science (MITES)

I’m pleased to see that I’m not the only one desperately trying to find out when decisions are coming out. Props to the person who created this thread.

^
Dude i'm been going crazy all week...this is so lame MIT hurry up!!!!

any idea when they will be mailed out.

MID APRIL WTH???

I'm mad cuz last year acceptances were mailed on March 23!!!

haha wow. i guess you have weeks to go crazy then. ENJOY.
yeah im kind of dissapointed because i totally bsed my essays. Not a good idea at all.

I would very well like to get me decision tomorrow.. not that it's going to happen but it would be nice.

I think we're all reaching the verge of insanity, especially friedrice...I hope you get in man, your enthusiasm/anxiety is crazy. I just keep everything bottled in so it won't be a huge deal if I get rejected.

Sorry if I'm too excited...it's spring break for me and I'm stuck at my house the whole week. Personally I love the anxiety...it gets me pumped up.

I'm trying to stay optimistic. I really want to be admitted. It sounds like the perfect program for me.

But, I am prepared if I do get rejected, I'll cry for a while, maybe run around the house with tears of sadness and curse MIT with every insult know to man, but after that I'll be all good and I'll get over it. (though I'll still be bitter deep inside my heart)

No need to apologize. You're keeping this thread alive.

lo. yeah u r, friedrice. My anticipation index has plummeted -1000 now. b/c I've been accepted into a summer research program. So i know that at least i'll be going somewhere this summer, if i don't get accepted into MITES, there's always somewhere else to go. but i'm just hanging around here until the decision is mailed out......hurry up MITES!

Hello! (Im going to write formally)
I've read your thread, I've applied to MITES as well and am wondering whether you think I'll get accepted. I'm from Miami, Hispanic (non-hispanic, uncommon last name) C grade school, first generation in college, ranked #7 of all the students (I think we are close to 1000 in my class).
Ok, here are my stats
4.799 weighted
3.78 unweighted (i think)
clubs (science, environmental, future builders of america, JETS)
track & field (this and last year)
im in an engineering magnet program, so I posted the classes i took in it (concepts of engineering, engineering tech I, engineering tech III, electricity and magnetism, and next year Dual Enrollment Statics, Dynamics, C programming, and software skills)
This year, I'm also taking pre-cal (with trig) and physics honors only, b/c I came late to the country and couldn't sign on to the advanced courses that fast.
I also have AP Environmental, AP Spanish, and AP World history credits (this year only taking APUS -_-, big mistake)
next year im taking AP Calc ab, ap physics C, ap gov/econ, ap human, eng, an the DE classes.
PSAT (i couldnt send my SAT scores, which were much better)
660 in math, 570 ! in reading, this is one of the things that worries me, I've shouldve taken the SAT at an earlier date.
I'm pretty comfortable with my essays, but the thing is that my pre cal teacher was absent frmo school a couple of weeks thanks to her pregnancy, and I had to get a recommendation letter from my Alg 2 teacher (still, he tol me he contacted the teacher), and Im not sure whether my physics teacher wrote a good recommendation letter because he takes his class overly seriously, and truly I didnt perform up to his "expectations" as the class isnt challenging enough for me, and "its just not worthy of my time" (lol, someone laugh).

what do you think my chances are? hopefully you wont be too angry for all i wrote, im just nervous like all of you. if i dont get in i think im gonna do some research at the university

AND THANKS!

i also left out this engineering program in middle school from which i came out as the "best student", and i was mmy middle schools valedictorian

solid stats. whether you will get in or not idk. I don't really know what to expect from MITES considering the fact they are making us wait an extra month. blahhhh

Where in Miami do you live?
I used to live in kendall before I moved up to Broward County.

SW Miami, and just like some other guy, after viewing some stats, i feel sucky as well :) i guess i wont be seeing you guys at mites

whos stats are talking about in particular? I want to see how i compare.

well, theres a few stats in the previous pages. You'll have to flip through and look.

okay so since this program pays great consideration to race.
Which racial group do you belong to?

I'm half Ugandan (east african country) and half white. I typically just check "african-american" though. I'm really not that disadvantaged though, which may not help me that much (best private school in state since kindergarten). Oh well. I really just want the decision already.

do you think income is a really big factor? because my family's doing really bad, and i live with a divorced parent.

It say on their website that income is a big factor. That's why I did not enter in my family's income. :/

I thought the word "minorrites" also apply to more than just race.
