nope no credit

Bummer. Ah, well - Mites is gonna be sweet like lollipops.

what are the stats of everyone else who was accepted? From what I understand, I'm at the bottom of you all.

Don't say it like that, i mean i don't think that once everyone is at mites people are going to have "ranks" they're just going to try and work together to get the work done.

If you haven't had calc you're probably going to end up in regular calculus, advanced calc isn't an honors version of calc its what follows first year calc. So it like Calculus III at a Uni I would believe.

I live in Minneapolis MN, actually an immediate suburb.
I am African-American/or an African born in America whateva you want to call it.
My Stat's in terms of GPA and class rank suck because I have been a downright underachiever in my life. I'm not sure what the gpa was when i submitted my app was, I had an incomplete at the time but right now I have like a 3.6 weighted and a 3.45 unweighted and I rank like 180/805
But I did have other things going for me. I'm a pure academian in the sense I probably taken the most rigerous curriculum my school has to offer. Before junior I'd taken 4 AP tests, 2 in freshman year & 2 in sophomore year. I self-studied one each year Calc AB last year & AP GOv't fresh. Passed all tests with a 4, which was kind of annoying actually.
I'm taking 4 AP classes this year, Calc BC, Euro, English L/C, Physics B. Taking the test for 2 more classes that
I was part of the UMTYMP program at the U of M for mathematically gifted..

Well to make this more concise since the page just refreshed losing all I had written except for up above.
I probably had good essays & nice recs & generally good tests scores.

^^ yay to a fellow African getting in!!!!

ugh...I should have applied here. Ah well, hopefully I'll get into SAMS or AP/EA at Carnegie Mellon.

Because the Advanced Calc is sorta like calc BC i would say it starts off at Calc 2 at a University/College because they cover a good amount of stuff in calc 1 at college.

just asked this somewhere else but what do you think is better AP/EA at carnegie mellon or MITES

oooo....i can see why MITES accepted u, pgtori.

That depends on where you are going to want to go for school. If you want to go to MIT, I'd say MITES, just because you'll be on campus and see if you are going to like the atmosphere and energy of the place (though it will be summer), not to mention the opportunity to network with people already there. If you are looking into Carnegie-Mellon you should do AP/EA. I mean although all the credits you get there are all transferable to other colleges sometimes depending on the amount of credits you are going to transfer a college will ask you to apply as a transfer student and not freshman from the beginning, (it's happened to many people at my school), not to mention that you'll get the feel for the campus there too.
But if it's neither/or any of the two programs would be great..

Monday is d-day!!! It's now or never!!!!

it would ruin my day if I didn't get the decision letter tomorrow, cuz i have a home period after lunch so i just come home anyways and the mail man is here already by then.. if i don't get it i'll just have to go back to school and tell them i still haven't gotten it.

Well I'm at MIT for CPW and the ppl in the MITES office said they mailed everything on Thursday so you guys should get something soon. So congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to the people who are still waiting :-D!!

Exactly how much does MITES contribute to one's acceptance at MIT? Does it almost guarantee acceptance, or does it just boost it a little?

Also, does it look as good to other colleges (e.g. Harvard)?

Finally, what should we bring? Will we receive more literature on how to prepare for this? (e.g. are laptops ok? do we need money for laundry? etc.)

From akybaky's post many MITES students who apply to MIT the following year are accepted. Also I'm sure most colleges know of summer programs such as MITES or TASP. So they could be a contributing factor in terms of admissions

Lastly, I'm sure MITES would give students a list of items to bring.

Note to Fly-ins: I'm not sure if you noticed my previous post, but the lady who called us was misinformed. Yesterday, after receiving a call saying that I was a fly-in, I was accepted into MITES. So I hope to see some of you fly-ins at MITES!

Rosee09 you're so lucky. A fly in and an acceptance...Simply amazing.

Yeah i'm sure the program will send a list of what you need to take... and i'm sure you will need to take money for your laundry.

If Akybaky's information is true, then rejection letters were also mailed out. Someone in this forum must have gotten rejected...can someone speak out? We won't hurt you, we swear!
