MIT MITES Summer 2014

I’m kind of sad that there isn’t as big of a discussion as I’ve seen in the other MITES threads :(.

@Apdenoatis if you do end up having to calculate it you halve the credits for first semester grades. @Korcha there is a MITES intranet-type thing where you log in and see the decision there. If I remember right we found out late March/early April. When are your applications due?

@losagna They’re due the 20th, which is almost a whole month later. So maybe they’ll be notified later?

@screamingpumpkin, it usually picks up after apps and closer to decision time. If not, hey, maybe fewer CC applicants ;).

@amaranthineD oh wow okay probably more into late April/early May then.

How do I upload SAT/PSAT scores? Not the one in the Test Scores and Courses folder, but the folder that says Upload SAT Scores and Note: this upload task is optional. Unofficial score reports are acceptable.
Is it going to affect anything if I don’t upload it?
Also, does it affect my application if I do not choose to write the optional essay?
(btw, other than that, I am done with my application)

@HelloPandaBear, the PSAT will be the official PSAT paper you received from College Board scanned. I’m not sure how to upload SAT scores.

@HelloPandaBear I don’t know how to upload the scores. For my ACT scores I just submitted the score report that was sent to me when I received my score. So if you were sent a score report I would just submit that. I don’t think it will affect anything because it should be included in the recommendation your guidance counselor completed since it includes your transcript and score reports. SAT and PSAT scores are sent to your school so your guidance counselor should have it.

@screamingpumpkin Start a discussion! :P

@emywemy610 I guess I will, then! Where are all of you other applicants applying from? I’m from CA. I’m soooo nervous. If I get in, I may just shed a fear happy tears. If I don’t, well, I’ll just volunteer more. :O

@AmaranthineD I hope, haha :P. I thought maybe people would want to all feel nervous together, but I guess that’s for later!

I’m from TX. If I don’t get in, I’ll go to T.S.A. nationals, but I would much rather spend my time at MITES :stuck_out_tongue:

@Mathmaticious What’s T.S.A. nationals?

@screamingpumpkin T.S.A. stands for Technology Student Association. There are all kinds of events to choose from. I do Vex Robotics, CNC Production, and Engineering Design. The national conference is in DC this year.
<a href=“High School Competitions”>http://tsaweb.org/High-School-Competitions</a>

@mathmaticious That sounds really fun! I wish I could get into that stuff, but I’m already busy as it is. And, not many people at my school are interested in science, math-y stuff.

@screamingpumpkin It is a lot of fun! What kind of stuff do you do?

@mathmaticious I’m a tutor, a varsity athlete, band member (marching and symphonic), I do a few clubs, and I volunteer at a few places nearby. I’m trying to start two projects this summer, one relating to bringing science to the community’s kids, and another to help out the homeless. I’m really excited!

@screamingpumpkin Wow, that’s a lot of stuff. It all sounds pretty awesome!

@Mathmaticious Us both getting into MITES would be even more awesome -crosses fingers-. I think I’ve gone over my entire app at least four times.

@screamingpumpkin I really dislike the waiting. We have like two months until we know if we got in or not. Such a long wait. :frowning:

@Mathmaticious Yeah, I thought about that. I then remembered that while I was waiting, I could be spending my time doing things I really enjoyed (as to keep my mind off of the MITES decision). Hey, even if I don’t get into MITES, I will have made my MIT app a bit better :).

Well, I’m from South Florida and I don’t have any chance of getting into MITES but I’m applying anyways haha I would absolutely love to go, but if I don’t I’ll just take some college classes over the summer and go hiking somewhere that isn’t completely flat. I found out that the valedictorian of my class is applying and that freaked me out…
