trying not to think about it at ALL until decisions come XD

I’ve found that I haven’t been thinking about the MITES decisions too often. I’m worrying about how to occupy myself until it’s time for me to apply to colleges later this year.

I am actually thinking about Mites a lot. I don’t think my essays were strong enough to get me in. My grades are great but I was not sure what to write about. Anybody want to discuss what they wrote about on the essays?

I suspect that everyone applying to this program already has great grades. I wrote about the sport I participate in, a personal family issue for the challenge essay, and bioengineering for my career goal.

I have been eyeing this post for quite a while but haven’t really said anything. MITES has been dream for quite a while… For my essays, I wrote about aerospace engineering for the career goal, Yearbook for EC, stereotypes for ethnic challenge, fear of public speaking for personal challenge, and overpopulation/exploitation of natural resources for changing the world.

I wrote about stereotypes for the racial identity one also; I think it was one of my strongest essays, because I really let my feelings flow free in that one.

Yeah it’s good that your racial identity essay is the strongest one because race is a really big determinant in MITES admission. I’m an Asian, the overrepresented. But I still applied because I’m a first generation student.

@Existentialized I get you. The only thing going for me here is that I’m low income and a female interested in Engineering. I’ve been wanting to get in this program since Freshman year because one of my friend’s brother went, and he strongly recommended it.

I’d be really, really happy if I can get in one of the three programs listed already. Fingers crossed! There’s just… Two (more or less) weeks until decision!

@Nobody426 It’d be great if we both got in!

It’d be great if everyone in this thread got in; it would be great to kind of know everybody before we would meet… fingers crossed x2

That would be awesome!

With a 4% admissions rate for MITES, I’m sure most of us here will be disappointed in April.

I’m a first-gen Asian girl at a competitive school district so I really don’t have much going for me in the way of diversity lol. I wrote about my struggle for math as my personal challenge and how I feel both American and Asian for the racial identity essay (was a friend’s friend’s idea.)

Hopefully at least a few of us will get in! The racial identity essay was the hardest to write for me, but i think it turned out to be the best. I wrote about my family’s struggles coming to America from Cuba and how their hard work has inspired me to work just as hard as them and not take their sacrifice to come to this country for granted.

^downer

^?

not you lol… I was saying that whoever said we aren’t all getting in is a downer. (I was kidding)

^ :P

Oh hahahaha

We can all just hope for the best. Either way, we can all gather up here (no matter the decisions) and talk about applying to MIT next year. I have a lot of friends (Okay, maybe like five that I actually talk to) attending MIT, and from what they have said (along with the Admissions blog), it sounds like heaven to me. Do you guys know what you want to major in yet?

I’m pretty interested in Genetics and Astrophysics. It’s two very different things, but I have my reasons. :)

@Nobody426 If you integrate genetics and astrophysics you can study alien life forms!.. jk that still doesnt work
