Quick update for anyone wondering, I asked MIT about the admission process and replied the same thing another person has written on this thread: will take about 2 weeks. Seems like more waiting.
I accepted my offer to MSRP and am super excited. I’m probably going to be working on the newly initiated SPARC fusion reactor at the Plasma Science and Fusion Center.
Being made to wait in uncertainty is definitely a disdainful experience but you also have to think about how the program is working to match you with research groups that you have a strong fit for. It would be a disgrace to the program if you were to spend 9 weeks in a group that doesn’t have meaningful work for you to do. My sense is that while many applicants are highly qualified the limiting element in the selection process isn’t funding and resources as much as research group fit, availability, and coordination.
@fusioneer congrats, man!! just for reference, what research experience you had before applying to this program? I’m kinda concerned because of my research experience is not that great.
@Battosai I built a fusion reactor during my last year in high school and am in the process of starting a plasma research laboratory at my university. Here is some info about my reactor: http://www.irradiantdesigns.com/mit/#fusion-reactor
@fusioneer That’s insane!!! you inspired me, dude.
I don’t know what to think about MIT at this point ._.
Does anyone have any update on acceptance or rejections?
I just got their email…got rejected. Good luck you guys
How unprofessional for them to wait one more week to just reject you, when they released early decisions at the beginning of March. Disgusting
@Battosai Oh dang. Did you get their email today? I still haven’t heard a thing
I am an international student and applied to oceanography. I just got rejected from MSRP. Luckily I already accepted the offer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution two weeks ago. Good luck to you all.
@qq1030028168 Well congrats on your other offer! Can I ask what time you got the email today? I’m quietly freaking out. I wish they would just let me know already.
Thank you. I got the email today an hour ago. (~3:30 eastern time)
I got my acceptance email yesterday! Looking forward to meeting you guys in the summer - I will probably be working in the School of Architecture and Planning.
Also, for the people that are still waiting on the decision. If you haven’t been rejected it probably means you are qualified. The issue for the admissions committee is coordinating with possible faculty mentors and research groups to make sure that if you are accepted you will be able to have a faculty sponsor. I called MIT this weekend and that is what they told me.
@windmills Congratulations! And thanks for sharing that. I suppose I’m still on the waitlist then. Do you think it would be wise of me to call? I’m not sure what I would even say…
@windmills congrats! Thanks for sharing. Still haven’t hear anything… XD
@windmills @fusioneer Congrats y’all! (See u in June) what university do you guys go to?
@AlbertD Congrats on your acceptance! I’m at UC Santa Cruz.
