MIT opencourseware

Okay, after perusing around this site for a while and actually looking at the lectures notes and homework, I realize that engineering is insane. Should I just not major in engineering? DOes it really look like the crazy stuff you see on http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Aeronautics-and-Astronautics/index.htm for example...I can't imagine myself ever being to do any of that, it looks so difficult.

meh, you'll learn

That's probably what you would have said about a lot of the stuff you know now if you had seen it a few years before you learned it. Also, having someone explain it in lecture can make a lot more sense than trying to read lecture notes.

i agree jdhutchin

If it makes you feel any better i looked at a couple of chemical engineering exams and they're doable(mind you i'm at Penn state ranked like 17 spots below MIT?...not that rankings mean much but...). The content is obviously a little different simply because we use completely different books.

Just study and understand the material and you'll do fine. Engineering isn't THAT hard if you study. And you're lucky you're going to be around so many academically motivated kids.

Dont' just glance at it, actually put time into it and work through the stuff. I've glanced at some of the open courseware stuff on courses that I've actually TAKEN and gotten intimidated by how complicated things appeared. But then I took a closer look and it was definitely something I remember and could do. If after putting in an appreciable effort and it is still a lost cause, then think about changing goals.

Someone on this board once told me that if you sat in on one of those classes right now, it'll be difficult. But that's the point of taking calculus/physics/chemistry and other courses early in your college career, so you can build up your skills.

By the way, back in 5th grade, I thought Calculus was hard. Now that I'm a senior (not having taken Calculus yet), it doesn't seem that difficult. So OP, don't worry about it. In a year or two, all of it (those courses) will make sense.

haha raccna, i'm not going to MIT, I'm actually only in high school. It is simply a way of exploring majors.

LOL calkid .

lol yea i didn't read anything on that website that was recommended to me yet. it looked helpful though, but not in this case i guess. muhh bad
