MIT out of reach?

<p>Hello, I've been wondering recently if I'd be able to get admission into MIT, and at this point I realize its a crapshoot (junior), but I can't tack on anything else that I really don't have a passion for, so I haven't. Anyways, take a look and see if I have what it takes.</p>

<p>GPA: 4.0
Sophomore year - AP Bio, APUSH
Junior year - AP Psych, AP Chem, AP Calculus AB, AP World History, AP Lang and Comp
Senior year - Not sure, definitely AP english math and sciences, at least 5.</p>

<p>ECs:
Cross country runner: Junior and Senior Year
Track and Field: Sophomore Junior and Senior
Robotics Team: 9-12 (Charter member)
Mathlete: 11-12
Teen Bible Quizzing: 7-12 (Very obscure I know, but I have competed on a regional level before and will likely go to nationals, involves memorization and quick recall of biblical material)
Will likely do a marathon this summer</p>

<p>Awards:
Several academic awards
Several top 10 awards in TBQ</p>

<p>Test Scores:
PSAT - 185 with no practice
SAT - Will retake until at least 2300</p>

<p>Other:
First generation immigrant (Fluent Russian speaker)
Family is poor</p>

<p>As for my AP classes, I got two 5s on the ones I took last year and will likely get 5s on these, with maybe a 4 or two in there somewhere. I really can't do many ECs like other people can as my family doesn't make enough money, and that makes me much less competitive, but there's no way I can see of making it apparent in my application.</p>

<p>Nope, definitely not out of your reach. Just be sure to be extremely impressive in math and science and try to obtain some leadership positions in EC 's if you can. About the SAT; it’s great that you want to keep taking it to get a 2300, but don’t take it too many times…colleges tend to look down on that. </p>

<p>Thank you! I see what you’re saying about looking for a leadership position, but the activities I participate in are pretty much leaderless aside from coaches. While I could have become cross country team captain, I won the popular vote but was replaced by two of the coach’s favorites. Anyways, I understand your point about retaking the SAT, so I will try to avoid that, thank you!</p>

<p>I really think you should consider taking one or two fewer AP classes so you have more time to do ECs. Find something that you find really fascinating and like mandypandy said, MIT wants leaders because right now you fit the book academically but the ECs and leadership positions are lacking.

<p>Thanks for the reply! Seeing as your EC’s are pretty maxed out, I would give you a good chance to get into MIT, but as we both know, its a crapshoot. Good luck!</p>
