MIT / p-ton reciprocity ( cross-post p-ton forum )

my kid is accepted at MIT, as of Dec 20 2008. - evidently as a "top pick" of early action apps, according to a phone call she received immediately from ther admissions dept the minute the results were put online. ACT 35, SAT 2360. former natl champion cyclist. other EC's in government activities at the state natl level. multi-time state math team chamion team captain. math mentorship program. interests and more normal awards in music. letters of reference from teachers generally calling her the student of a career. background is from a very small town in the midwest public school where she essentially made her own advanced placement program as she went along - not a magnet or prep school by any measure.

is there any general rule of thumb on such a student also be accepted at princeton, given the above ??

Congratulations on your kid's achievements. No, there is no guarantee that your daughter will be accepted to Princeton. Being accepted EA at MIT is certainly an affirmation of the strength of her application, but it doesn't necessarily mean that she will be accepted at Princeton.

No guarantees of course, but pretty good chance, just from reading what you wrote above. The national cyclist thing is pretty cool.

I would say no, princeton is a reach for anyone and many applicants have done some extraordinary things like your daughter. (not to put down her accomplishments, though, they all sound great.) the one thing that could be an edge towards the yes is her cycling if she intends to continue in college...

One thing I learned from my daughter's experience a few years ago is that success (or failure) at getting admitted to one high-end school does not predict success (or failure) at another high-end school.
