MIT Primes Local

Hey everyone, I had a couple questions about the local MIT PRIMES (not to be confused with MIT-PRIMES USA).

I’m from a suburb of Boston and was wondering what qualifications I need to attend this after-school program (I know, technically not a “Summer Program”).

Is it as selective as MIT PRIMES USA?

Do I need to have taken Calculus to attend?

Do they only need me to solve the problems sets and get 2-3 letters of recommendation for the application or are there more parts to the application?

I know a professor at MIT and a student in the PRIMES program who knows some of the undergrads running it. Does this help me?

I am not a math GENIUS, but I’m pretty good at math and love it. I also love computer science and logic.

I know I’m not giving a lot of information about myself, that is not the point of this post. I just want information about this prestigious and selective program.

MIT Primes is probably the premier high school math research program in existence. It is HIGHLY competitive.

The strongest math kids in eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and northern Rhode Island compete to get into the program. We know a few kids that have done it in the past, and they had qualified or nearly qualified for the USAJMO and USAMO.

Thanks for the reply. I guess that’s not for me. Is there anything reputable that is high quality but maybe a little less selective? Like for average overachievers?

Thanks again

Anyone got primes notice for 2017 in email yet?
