Hi. So MIT says on its website that it recommends that I submit a humanities LOR and a STEM LOR. The curriculum in my nation is restricted and the only non stem subject I have is English however The English teacher has only taught me for a 6-7 months and I’ve not interacted much with her. I have submitted a biology lor and math lor. Both teachers have taught me for 2 years I frequently discuss things related to their subject areas outside of the textbook with them engage in class and they have mentored me in multiple competitions couple of which I have won. So I included the biology and math lor. Did I do the right thing. Ik mit used to be very strict with the humanities and stem separate lors but this time they have specified that this is not a hard requirement. Did I do the right thing
For college applications, if something is recommended, you should treat it as if it were required.
I come from a country where the curriculum is heavily restricted. The only humanities subject I have is English, and I have known the teacher since grade 12 only. On the other hand, my Math and Bio teachers I’ve known for 2 years. Both of them consider me as their favorite student and I engage with them a lot in class. Even beyond the classroom they were mentors to me in multiple state level competitions couple of which I won, and some such as an exchange program which were not even related to their subjects. Since they know me better as a person and as a student I decided to go with them. Also upon mailin g MIT they say that this requirement is not necessary.
