Does anyone have advice, please, on how this works. As the students move around a lot during the first week, should my D just bring a sleeping bag and minimal luggage? It seems as though having all her bedding and belongings that week will be too much - or do they have a place where kids can store their stuff until they know which dorm they are in? Any advice welcome - thank you!

You might want to ask this on the MIT forums.

But basically, what happens is that your daughter will have a temp room, where she will stay for the first part of orientation. During this time, she’ll want to visit other dorms to decide whether or not she’ll want to move out of her temp dorm, but she’ll always have a place to stay there. If she decides she wants to move, she enters the lottery, and depending on her result she’ll either move dorms or stay. In most cases though she’ll be at least moving within rooms in her dorm. When everyone moves to their permanent rooms, there will be a lot of help going around, especially for those who have to move from one dorm to another. I wouldn’t worry too much about it, since she’ll have a room to store stuff the whole time, and she’ll only move once, if at all.
