My school does not declare GPA. It declares percentages.

1.) In that case what should my counselor fill in the GPA section?
2.) And what do weighted and unweighted GPA/rank mean?

Hey! Fellow MIT applicant here. I’m not sure about the percentage GPA thing, @MITChris would probably know.

So in HS you generally have two GPAs, one weighted (W) and unweighted (UW) (this really depends on your school, mine only has UW).
Your unweighted GPA is simply the average of all your grades. It should be something on a 4.0 scale (of course, exceptions, etc. Your school has percentages, so IDK)
Your weighted GPA takes into account the more rigorous classes you have had, such as Honors or AP classes. These “weight” more in your GPA calculation, so having an A in an AP class would raise your GPA more than an A in a normal class. Vice versa, a bad grade in a weighted class can pull your GPA down more. Weighted GPAs can exceed 4.0.

If your school doesn’t have a weighted GPA, don’t worry about it, you don’t have to put it in.

Thanks for the info! But I am still confused…Since our school does not declare a formal GPA, should I ask my counselor to leave the field blank or should I calculate my GPA on the basis of the percentage I’ve obtained?

I think the counselor provides a description of you school’s grading scheme as part of the secondary school report.
