Hello from the MIT THINK team! We’re a student group at MIT that provides science, research, and innovation opportunities for high schoolers across the country. Each year, we select project proposals to provide MIT mentorship, a $1,000 budget, and a fully-funded, 4 day trip to MIT! Projects in the past have ranged from green technologies and practical devices to software applications.
We wanted to do this AMA to give everyone the opportunity to get their burning questions about the program answered before our applications open this November!
If you haven’t heard of us before, please visit our website: think.mit.edu
We look forward to answering your questions :)!
Hi! I am considering submitting my research proposal to MIT Think Program. What I’m concerned is that if international students attending high school in US are eligible to apply. I am currently a senior and have studied in a high school in CA since my freshman year. I envision I will stay in US for college as well.
We’re so glad that you’re interested, and I apologize for the delay in answering. As long as you are present and living in the US from January to February, you can participate!
My son is interested in aerospace engineering. Actually he is very passionate about it. He has a 4 in AP Physics and doing a total of 13 APs. He is in the National Science Society, Honor Society, Key Club Secretary, track etc. He is a senior. What should he focus on in his eassy? Any tips on applying?
Thank you for answering my question. I am excited that I am eligible to attend. I kinda have a idea of using cell culture to create a model of how the presence of bacteria affects the cancer rate, but it’s more biochem-related. Would you suggest that I should incorporate some technology and engineering into my research when applying to this program?
Biochem by itself totally fits within the types of proposals we look for. As long as you think it could be completed within one semester and under a $1,000 budget, we would be honored to hear about your idea!
Hello @MIT_THINK Staff. Thanks for this post. My son who is a sophmore is very interested in this opportunity. Is he eligible to apply for the next summer program?
