MIT Transfer Applicants Spring 2017

Hey everyone!

I didn’t see a topic yet for people applying for transfer to MIT for the Spring 2017 semester, so I thought I’d start the discussion! I applied to study pure mathematics. Who else out there is applying?

Also, 2 more weeks until decisions!

My son has applied for a transfer from his community college to continue his education in Nuclear field. If he doesn’t get in this spring, he’ll graduate in May with an Associates in Nuclear Engineering Technology. I think we might have applied too soon. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as deferment from spring to fall? Maybe they’ll just say, oh you should have waited until you finished your associates. No MIT for you.
If MIT picks 12-14-16 @18:20 as decision date then
12 more days until decisions!

How do you guys know when decisions come out?

MIT.edu>admissions>apply>transfer>deadlines.
Mid-December
Applicants for Spring semester are notified of admissions decisions

How does “Mid-December” translate to Dec. 14 at 6:20 pm, or two weeks from Nov. 29?

@jaccceee Good for him! I’m at a community college too (in California).

@benstein312 I received an email a few days ago from admissions saying that decisions will be sent out mid-December. R/e the date jaccceee gave - from what I hear, MIT likes to send out decisions at numerically interesting times. Therefore Dec. 14 at 6:20p = 12/14/16 18:20. Haha I love that!

I wish they would announce when they are going to announce the announcements.

I put this together by Googling MIT decisions advanced settings,using dates of December 1-29 + corresponding year. Not sure how accurate any of this is.

*Edit: I am assuming that spring transfer decisions are announced at the same time as early action decisions. If they’re not then this is definitely wrong.

Ha, only MIT would send out decisions at interesting number combinations!

@jaccceee

Take a look at this article. http://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/transfer-admissions-released-next-wednesday-12-21

In 2011, the Spring transfer decisions were released on Dec. 21, which is different the early action date you have listed.I wasn’t able to find any other articles mentioning the decision release date for Spring transfer. Perhaps College Confidential threads from previous years would be a better indicator?

@jaccceee @benstein312 judging from the board and MIT’s blog, it looks like frosh admission decisions are being released on 12/15/16 at 6:28p EST (tau time). Haven’t heard anything about transfer decisions yet though.

Did you ever get any emails about your application besides the slideroom’s “Submission Complete” email? I really don’t even know if MIT received the snail mail with extra unopened transcript and 2 other recommendations. If there was anything else I sent, I can’t remember.

@jaccceee Nope, no other confirmation other than the slideroom emails. I actually got an email from admissions last week saying my app was incomplete (they said they didn’t have my LORs yet) and to have them submitted no later than 12/7. I called admissions and it turned out they just hadn’t processed them yet. I had them confirm my snail-mailed recs and portfolios were there too, just to be safe.

If you’re worried something wasn’t received, give the admissions office a call and they can help you!

Oh boy… decisions will probably be out in the next week!! Best of luck to everyone!

I only received one confirmation email from Slideroom when I submitted @jaccceee. Looks like we’re safe since we didn’t get an “Incomplete App” email like @surge247.

So… any ideas anyone?

Maybe mailed out on 12/14?

I searched for other topics on CC that previous transfer applicants made.

Looks like the admission decisions for recent semesters were just emailed without any heads up. Maybe we’ll get lucky later today! I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Sending out all my positive vibes to the other applicants!

Dear XXXX,
I am sorry to tell you that we are not able to admit you to MIT as a transfer student…
Received email 12/20/16 @4:29pm

@jaccceee

I’m so sorry to hear you didn’t get in. I got rejected too… Man. This sucks so much.

Nothing else to do but get back to the books, twice as hard.

Rejected as well

Hey guys I’m applying for Fall 2017 Transfer. Can anyone help me with filling in the application?
