I do A-Levels (British system), and I'm planning on applying to MIT as a transfer (I'll be a freshman this fall). Anyway, my grades were: A*AAB, in the B I missed an A by 1 mark, so I will order a remark and hopefully it's an A :s But if things don't work out, will this one B totally screw up my chances of getting in? As it is MIT Transfer is close to impossible, but could great ECs, a high GPA, and great essays make up for the B?

As I understand it, and there are so few transfers that nobody on this board is genuinely expert, all of this is much less relevant than you would imagine. It will be looked at but it is not the most important thing. Just as when you apply to MIT, your year 8 and year 9 grades don’t matter so much, what is much more important is what you are doing now. Similarly, for transfers, the most important thing is what you have done on your university campus. You say you have great EC’s, how does that manifest itself on your university campus. You say you have great grades, how are your university grades. That is what gets you in as a transfer. Your high school career is over. It might be looked at, but that is what is relied upon for freshman admission, not transfer admission.

You will be attending UCLA in the fall, which is a great school. Your chances of transfer to MIT after freshman year are probably as high as capturing a Higgs boson and I am only partially kidding! Just wait until grad school.

is the OP a current freshman at UCLA? i am also here as a freshman, and i’m thinking about transferring too!

Yeah I am hahahha
