MIT Transfer - Fall 2011!

Can those of you who were accepted, can you please post your specs?

It’s real (or at least, it matches the other letters that people have reported receiving, and which MITChris seems to have confirmed). Congrats.

I don’t want to write my profile like Elizabeth, but i just want to tell you my highest accomplishment that i had and still rejected, I had second rank on math olympiad in nation, but od course they consider alot of elements! MIT is a good school, but guys don’t forget that not 100% of most successful people are graduated from MIT.
Good luck everyone!

@KMP123: Well, if your email has contact number and name of the person who sent the email, it should be legit. I have been contacting this woman for my whole application process, so it’s 99% accurate.

I got into MIT for the fall as a transfer as well. If you are concerned about the legitimacy of your email you can first check the email header and make sure the email started its journey from a MIT server. You could also just call if you don’t know where to find the email header. The acceptance emails look to be all the same though and yours matches…

Does anyone know how many transfer students were admitted for the fall? Also does everyone know if they are going or not? I am still undecided. Someone should start a facebook group of the admitted transfer fall 2011 students so we can get to know each other…If no one else does, I will once I finish exams. Took a study break to type this.

Congrats to everyone who got in! It’s a great accomplishment.

Rejected. I was sort of unorthodox. I have a 3.01 (out of 4) GPA and am into research in theoretical computer science with lots of collaborative work. I thought MIT valued research over grades… Guess I was not good enough.

I got in (still can’t believe it). They said they were going to send another letter this week. Will it be a real letter or email, and will it have an estimate of how many transfer credits we’ll get?

Bump, again can those of you who got in post your specs to give an idea what MIT is looking for? Thanks.

I have been accepted. I cannot tell you exactly what MIT is looking for but my understanding is a very solid academic core with extracurriculars that portray your values. I’m not going to go into detail about my GPA, SATs, or my extracurriculars mainly bc I know they won’t help you. If you want to get into MIT as a transfer, you’re probably already in college and done with the SATs. The next thing I suggest is focusing on academics, get a high GPA. Lastly get involved and stand out, make yourself noticeable to not only your professors and advisors, but anyone who looks at your “profile”. That’s what MIT will look at, and thats how the choose the admits. One other thing, don’t do something just to put it on your resume, do something because it brings you enjoyment or makes you a better person.

@doryphorus - They are mailing and official letter, maybe with more details. I was told they were send out Thursday.

I found a blog about someone who got accepted

Thanks for the reply MITFALL2011, I am currently a senior in high school, I was wondering how
hard it would be to transfer from a community college. I can still retake the SAT’s but I don’t know if that would help.

@mrlazlness, applying from a CC might give you a better chance, or at least it would make the “why MIT?” essay a little easier, since you have to transfer somewhere! Just make sure to get stellar grades and squeeze your CC for all it has. Don’t appear as if you’re just coasting through trying to get from point A to point B - get involved where you can.

@bluedia Thanks for your response, Did those of you who got accepted transfer from a CC or from some other elite college?

Did anyone get the official letter yet?

Hi, I’ve never posted on these forums but have been reading this forum for the past month. I also got into MIT for fall 2011 transfer =) I’m crazy excited and like the other guys on here never expected that I would actually get in. I wanted to get on and say that I did NOT apply from a community college, but from a pretty well known college. It was never my plan to come here for two years and transfer (in fact I almost didn’t apply), but I couldn’t be happier to be headed to Boston in the fall.

Also, I got my official letter today. I was hoping that there would be more information in it but it is just two sheets of paper- 1 for acceptance and 1 for financial aid information. I imagine if you have already submitted your financial aid information that there is an offer for that included too, but I’m working on that now.

I also got accepted. International student from Greece here (Greek university). I applied last year as a freshman and got in the waitlist. But now I got accepted. I wanted to ask you guys who also got in, are we eligible for on-campus housing this fall? Because on the transfer students site says I can apply on January. So where am I going to live till january???

nah bro don’t worry. I called and they said they are working on updating the page for fall transfers. you’ll get the information soon enough. just relax and enjoy the spring.

also is it just me or are there a bunch of admits on this thread

there’s a Facebook group started for fall 2011 transfer…if you were admitted you should join!
