@MidwestSalmon I’m not applying for the prestige, I’m applying because I believe these are places where I will thrive and meet the best people in my field. These are where the best minds gather to make a real difference in the field of science. I really don’t care about the prestige at all.

http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/chemistry-rankings

UT Austin is ranked higher than Princeton & UPenn for chemistry grad programs.

Ok, 'cause it just seems like a random list of prestigious schools. :)

@midwestsalmon No, this list is well thought out. Notice how Harvard isn’t on here? If I am sure I want to do chem, and I get into only UPenn and UT, I’ll go to UT. Although I’m leaning more towards physics. Princeton is on here because it’s physics program is fantastic. I feel like my best fits are MIT and CalTech. I am a pure nerd, and those schools are perfect for people like me.

nambu, are you Asian male, if yes, good luck to you for dreaming big.

@drgoogle The unfortunate truth. I seriously hate affirmative action.

I think you have a good chance at Caltech which I think is a better school for physical science.

@drgoogle do you mean that I have a good chance of getting in? I mean, the only thing I have against me for CalTech is that my SAT is slightly below 2300.

If I remember correctly, there is no affirmative action at Caltech. Check out the recent results thread this year for confirmation. I think most of my daughter’s friends that were accepted in 2013 had around 2340+ and they are both females.
But check out the essay prompt to see if you can write passionately about it. I know my daughter was gunho about applying to Caltech until she read the prompt.

@drgoogle I already wrote practice essays for this years common app for caltech. Probably the only essay I’ve really loved in my entire life. CalTech’s spirit basically matches mine exactly.
