MIT vs Johns Hopkins for neurobiology

Hi. I am very very interested in becoming the first person to find out how do we remember--sorry i dont mean to be cheezy but, which school is better.

I love MIT. It has been my dream school sicne I came to US, but realistically I have a .00001 chacne of admitance. I like Hopkins alot too. I is my third dream school. Which school do you recommend? Also if you could see my resume and tell me what are my chances for each school, like matche, high match, super reach, etc.

here's the link:

Thank you.

anyone?..

My recommendation: Apply to both of them. If you don’t apply, you have a 0% chance of getting in. Once you get into one or both, then visit to be sure that it’s the school for you. I’m not familiar with the JHU neuroscience program but MIT’s is really top notch.

You’re putting the cart before the horse. If you get into both, THEN this is a decision to make. Neither of them is easy to get into.

Both are phenomenal programs. From what I have heard from people at JHU, its student culture is VERY different from MIT’s.

can you describe the student’s culture of both schools and how they differ?

I applied to JHU as well as MIT this past year - and was accepted at both somehow
When it came to making the decision, for me, it was MIT hands-down, at least with respect to JHU. I love the Brain/Cognitive Science major at MIT, and my friends who are enrolled in it or have done UROPs in it say it’s a really great course. Plus, the Cambridge/Boston environment is incredible - when I visited for CPW, a group of prefrosh and I wandered about at like 3 in the morning and the whole place was still alive.
Definitely apply to both!

To massively oversimplify, cooperative (MIT) vs. competitive (JHU). This is, of course, far from all there is to the student culture at either place, but it’s the difference that I had in mind when I made my comment.

I also got into both JHU and MIT. I didn’t know about the cooperative vs. competitive thing, but I just liked the idea of MIT and the Cambridge/Boston environment more.

To second what everyone said, definitely apply to both. If you do get in to both, overnight visits go a long way in helping with decision making (assuming both places have ~equal programs).
