MIT vs. Stanford in Grad. Mechanical Engineering - Design, Product Development

I have been accepted by both MIT and Stanford's Mechanical Engineering graduate program with a focus on design and product development, and I will have to make a decision soon. I would highly appreciate if anyone could provide me with insight on the following criteria.

The main criteria for me to make a decision are:

Silicon Valley vs. Cambridge/Boston:
-Quality of life (cost of living, convenience, local environment)

-which area do you think have more potential employers looking for Mechanical Engineers?

MIT vs. Stanford:
-Alumni/ Networking/ reputation

-Field of Design/ Product Development

Please feel free to post your thoughts. Thanks!

Talking about Stanford, I like both the ME 310 and ME 218. I would highly appreciate if anyone has any insight to provide in these two series.

YS29, I would suggest you post your inquiry to the Graduate School forum, since you’re likely to find more people who are familiar with the particulars of grad programs there. You’ve been admitted to the two best programs in MechE anywhere, so you can’t go wrong at all. Can you visit Cambridge and Palo Alto so you can get a feel for the areas and see which you personally prefer? Congratulations and best of luck in your decision.

zenkoan, thanks! I will post this up to the graduate school forum as you suggested.
