MIT with low gpa

How bad does having a low GPA affect one getting into MIT? Out of curiousity.

No bashing please.

What is your definition of “Low”? The general standard is a 3.8 UW for a realistic shot, though even then its shaky. Of course, there are always exceptions, but don’t apply expecting to be one.

3.0 UW low @matt846 for example

Not a chance.

@GA2012MOM people chanced my cousins with D’s in an AP class and said they still have a chance to get into UC berkeley… explain that then? @BrownParent

Totally unrealistic.

Sorry OP, I didn’t realize you were only wanting opinions from an admissions officer, as you called them. Still, no chance.

OP: Please give us only one reason why any individual with a 3.0 u/w GPA would be accepted by MIT, when there are literally tens-of-thousands of applicants with far superior qualification and potential who will be denied (and, incidentally, Berkeley and MIT are not really comparable institutions).

Arguing with CC participants who are simply attempting to help you is plainly rude.

Impossible. A 3.0 HS GPA is nearly guaranteed failure at MIT.

“'D’s in an AP class” doesn’t give you a 3.0 GPA. However, if someone said you had a chance to get into Berkeley with that kind of a record, they’d most likely be proved wrong.

The reason why a 3.0 will not cut it is because if you cannot handle simple high school work, you will not be able to handle MIT.

@calicash K

expcept maybe if it’s this kid : www youtube com/watch?v=XOLOLrUBRBY put the dots at www and com

Regarding UC Berkeley (and all the UCs), your cousin should look at http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/q-and-a/repeating/ rather than taking comments on a “chances” threads as an authority.

@Ynotgo Yep, I showed them that. Thanks.

@meriks‌ are you high or something? lol. kevin doe lives in uganda. OP lives in california.

@finallyfree‌ Stop with the disrespect. It’s just a question, calm down.

please stop bumping your post.youve been reminded multiple times. i did not offend you. infact i wasnt even speaking to you.

Seriously doubt your chances. Of course, there are other factors, but with grades that low you have virtually no chance at MIT and other top tier schools

No way. MIT is too tough for someone who has difficulty with high school level work.
