Mit

First off let me start by saying that I understand that MIT's athletic programs are DIII and they have no slots for athletes.

However being recruited is still supposed to help atleast some.

So I wanted to know if I have a realistic chance of being accepted.

I have met with the coach, he said that he would put in a letter of recommendation for me, which will flag the file in admissions but it cant guarentee anything. I am also going back out to MIT in september for the recruiting weekend for potential recruits.

UW GPA : 3.6
W GPA :4.4

I'm not looking for a number, because I know thats impossible, I am just wondering if I have a decent chance at being accepted.

Thanks!

You have the scores to get in, and definitely the athletic prowess to interest the coach, but it seems like you have D1 capability. Why not attempt to get into an IVY through athletics, as they (I think) have spots for athletes. As you probably know, your UW GPA is what doesn’t help you. Try and work really hard in senior year to get it up a little.

people on cc are obsessed with gpas without realizing that they’re hardly one size fits all. a 3.6 can be a crappy gpa at one school, and an amazing gpa at another school. depending on your background and school’s competitiveness it may not be holding you back at all.

Have you considered trying to get recruited at Harvard? As a Harvard student you can cross register with MIT.

Yes, but Harvard only allows you to take course subjects at MIT that are not offered at Harvard. And there is a limit to the total number allowed.

My daughters field hockey teammate got into MIT. She will be a freshman this year.

When she was recruited, the MIT coach told her that the prior year he sent a list of ten names to admissions during ED. Of the ten, six were admitted. Pretty great odds.

Why not ask the coach you’re speaking with the same question about this year’s Freshman?
