MITES 2011 Information & Discussion

Congratulations, CPUscientist3000, on your selection to the 1 week program! There is no doubt in mind that you will be a freshman at MIT in the fall of 2012. Raise your SAT Math scores for good measure, okay?

How are you guys dealing with the anxiety. I have a internal clock telling me how long I have till my mail comes tomorrow and the time till I get my WTP email. Eeek only 21 hr and 50 minutes.

Thanks dascholar :)

Did you attend MITES last year?

I am taking the SAT in may—my last chance

CPU, nope. The only 2 members of that group are Sandy Tenorio and a guy named Erik Speed

Oh I see. .

No, I’m a college advisor for low income students, and for the first time after 10 years I found a student in my western city who qualifies for the MITES program. You definitely qualify and I wish there were more students in my city like you and desert scholar.

Thank you!
I do wish I could go to MITES, but I’m extremely grateful that out of over 1400 applicants, they chose me for SOME type of program. My mission now is to make myself memorable :)

BTW, CPUscientist3000, are you using the Barrons SAT book? I find that it works best for the students I work with, especially for math prep.

No, I am using Princeton Review. I have barron’s for my subject tests. Barron’s has a lot of typos and mistakes that confuse me, but it is more for “teaching” material, where I’ve found PR to be a review/more about strategies.

Got you, CPUscientist3000. Nevertheless, despite the few errors in Barrons, I find that it proposes more difficult questions than PR. But you go on and get the scores you need. I absolutely believe you will! Keep me informed.

Thank you! Barron’s questions are harder. I’ve heard PR’s are right at the level on the SAT.

May will be my last chance, I’m worried because I’m trying to break 2100 from my score of 1940. Specifically in math.

Why is May your last chance? because you wouldnt be taking it in time to also get your scores back to include with applications?

June and October are subject test dates

Has anybody here applied to UF SSTP? Accepted? If I don’t get MITES then UF it will be for me!!

Is UF SSTP only for people who live in FL?

UF SSTP actually accepts admissions globally, but I’d imagine most of the people that apply are from FL. I was going to apply but once I found out about MITES I knew that MITES would be so much better.

Monday, monday, gotta get mail on monday!

Gotta have my bowl, gotta have my cereal haha and gotta get my letter tomorrow O.o

My turn :p:

To everyone that has been accepted into MITES/E2, or who’s fate already has MITES/E2 written upon it (but you just don’t know yet):
Congratulations! Although I’m not at MITES/E2 nor will I be, I know that you were clearly selected for your talents, success and awesome character! I’m sure the summer you will spend at MIT will be one of your bests and I hope you make the best out of it. This is something you really deserve.

To those who have been rejected (or have it written in your fate):
You are also just as awesome and special as those who have been accepted! Just keep in mind that there were ~1400+ applications and of course, they could not have everyone on campus. Some of you may even be more talented (at your current state) than those who have been accepted (due to the resources you have around you and others may not) and therefore that could be the reason you were rejected. Whatever reason you may have been rejected for, DO NOT LET IT GET TO YOU. Life goes on, just relax. Hopefully you will spend your summer with an other fun and exciting program (just make sure you make the best out of it, in preparation for college). Please, please do not let this rejection interfere with your other life-priorities.

Whatever happens is for your own good and in the end, all will be good.
Good night to everyone… enjoy your day off school tomorrow (if you have vacation this week) (if you’re in Boston/Maine: Happy Patriots Day!).

Good luck to everyone who is opening their mailboxes tomorrow waiting for that thick envelope. …It’s for the best.

I hope that the majority of us will keep in touch as we move close to the college application process (including, of course, EA for MIT).

Yes, I applied and was accepted. From FL
