MITES 2011 Information & Discussion

Do we have to send anything through mail? Aren’t all the requirements met through the online uploading?

mystic1knight posted it.

http://engineering-apps.mit.edu:8080/mites/apply

My math teacher told me that all he prepared to send was the letter (signed, sealed, etc) by mail. Is the form really necessary? Because it was updated recently and no longer has fields for our names, etc. He hasn’t sent it in yet though. What should I do?

We don’t need to send in a passport photo yet right? The website says “Upon acceptance to the MITES Program”…

MITES is too unorganized
But all my things are coming from the mail since my school & teachers are stuck in the past

@eobaggs: No, we don’t need a passport photo. That is only for accepted students; I emailed and asked.

@CPUscientist3000: That’s ridiculous! $40?!? My friend and I are emailing them, and so far the consistent response has been “send us the ‘official’ report”. Well, we can’t send it to you if the official report doesn’t exist on paper, can we?!? They also refuse to accept a printout from CollegeBoard of the “unofficial” report, even though that’s the only one we received.

Gah. This is way too disorganized.

I know :frowning: ugh. Oh well. All I have to do is mail mine (I’m doing it myself, my counselor is sealing/signing it tho).

Next time you take the SATs, opt for the paper report. I heard you still get the online report too

Oh gosh, I am confused. I haven’t taken the SAT yet so I only submitted my PSAT scores in the online app. I thought my counselor would be sending them in, but it doesn’t say that on the checklist on the application status site. Do I copy my score report and send it to MITES?

yeah, i copied my score report (in color) and i’ll be sending mine in tomorrow along with the whole package. have your counseklor sign the envelope when it’s sealed

Does it matter if I send them in myself, or will they think it’s not “official”?

make sure it says from the school. like the return address. and have you counselor sign it. if it’s the legit score report, it’s fine.

waaitt a minute.
so are we supposed to send in pictures of ourselves?
why do they want pictures of us? that’s kinda weird…

They make a picture book of everyone in the program. It helps the staff and instructors know you before you even arrive (the program director called a student by name at the first family meeting last year and they had yet to meet formally) and it really helps people get to know everyone else’s names and faces.

I spelled “recommend” wrong. FAIL

j.brown
since you were accepted last year can you tell us about your experience?

This waiting is causing me to have waaaayyyy too much anxiety. I just want fastforward to April…:(

oh my goodness
your sou lucky to have made it this year j.brown!
i KNOW the program is super awesome. frick. i really want to make it =(
but i go to a private school, so there goes my ‘minority background’
but im azn? from canada? do you think that will help with the minority part?

Hey, during the application we could check a box that asked if we wanted our application shared with other programs? Anybody know if the send it to SSP (Summer Science Program)? Or should I manually apply to SSP?
-Thanks.

@mystic1knight they probably do send your info to the program, but you should probably just shoot MITES an email just to double check.

I’ve only applied to MITES, so I better get in, otherwise, it’s staying at home doing nothing all day for me :(
