@Soydecali: You have no idea how much better that makes me feel, i’m almost on the verge of tears because i want to get in THAT bad. I never really thought that a student can be way over qualified for something like how a student with a Masters degree applies to work at staples as a tech (no offense to anyone). I hope you make it too, you deserve it.

I want us all to get in!!

soydecali–that’s exactly what makes me sad ): cause i definitely wouldn’t consider myself underprivileged in terms of what education opportunities i have, but at the same time i don’t have several thousand dollars sitting around to spend on a nerdy summer camp ya know? so i don’t have too many options other than MITES…

sat - 2400
gpa - 3.935 U/W

Well I am economically lower than the standard 50k, but I live in a good school district. 6APs,all honors, 4.0uw, above210 PSATs. My parents didn’t go to college and I’m Hispanic. I got waitlisted at lead, so I’m not expecting anything big.

i heard they didn’t really like people that have HIGH HIGH sat scores…that it actually brings u down.
i don’t really care if i get rejected or not.
im going to Lead. i got in and i didn’t have an amazing gpa or high psat scores.
plus i heard not alot of asians and white ppl get in.
some one i know got rejected last year and she was an asian female with almost perfect sat scores and a high gpa.

Don’t take the score side too seriously. It’s probably the part that’s hardest to control. Some people just test well and some test not so well just naturally. There were people at MITES who had scores 300 points below the average I posted, and a fairly good number who had scores 200-300 points above. The vast majority did lie between 1850-2200, but by no means is that an end-all.

But, either way, the scores are just looked at once or twice to make sure you can do the work, but even then, your grades and recommendations are more important to MITES.

Once again, it’s out of your hands now, I’m sure most of you are qualified, and good luck!

JMC

Same boat. And to make it worse, I’ve got parents in the science field. I don’t understand why MITES would think it’s a bad thing. It’s not like I got any extra help from them in any of my classes anyways. HS science is too foundational, and they don’t remember it. Anyone else in the same situation?

JMC and entrevox- the thing is, you guys wouldn’t be considered “underprivileged.” there’s more to it than just your race. Just because you don’t have money to “waste” on a summer camp doesn’t mean anything. You don’t HAVE to go to one to go to ANY college.

Some people are less off. That’s what they’re trying to get at. People who don’t go to “good” schools with an abundance of APs. Whose parents DIDN’T go to college/encourage them in schoolwork. Or maybe they only have one parent. Or none.

I don’t want you guys to take it offensively, but that’s how I see it.

I got a score of 1850 on the SAT
u/w GPA:4.0
live in border town
parents did not finish high school
never took PSAT
have OCD disorder, not personality
Can somebody please tell me if I at least have a .0000001% probability to make it

Everyone has a chance once they apply.

Think of it this way, if you didn’t apply, you’d have 0% chance. Don’t stress.

^ lol, so very true

What’s everyone’s first choice school?

Mine is Smith in Northampton, MA.

agree agree agree agree agree agree agree lol the thing said it was too short

I am conflicted with Johnson and Wales, Rochester Institute of Technology, Florida Institute of Technology, Lawrence Technological Institute, and University of South Florida (which is honestly my safety school) as first choice. I’m basing the choice on how i will pay for everything where as for JWU i will be a 3 time member of SkillsUSA when i graduate from HS and they give out very good scholarships especially for those who win at the national level, and regular merit scholarships that i may be eligible for. RIT is in New York State, give out many merit scholarships, and i’ve fallen for their MS/BS 5-Year Computer Engineering program. FIT and USF are in the state of Florida so i’ll be close to home and Bright Futures (the state scholarship program that is available to those who meet the requirements of any 4 levels of merit). USF has a nice campus and all, and a good Computer Engineering major which is recommended by the instructors over the Computer Science path. FIT is more technology related entirely and more or less like RIT (i just want seasons). LTI is in Illinois and i can say that i like them but the fact remains that i haven’t visited, and there’s nothing that interest me as much as any of the other colleges.

Just thought I’d point out that the schedule on the MITES website says decisions are out on Monday the 19th, 2011… However, the 19th is a Tuesday…

The 19th was a Monday last year, so I guess they forgot to change that…However, last year decisions were mailed on the 8th!!!

if they do thats 2 weeks away and im going to be filled with anxiety as of April 1st. the worst thing they could do is send out to everyone that they were accepted but then email those who didnt the next day as April Fools

@McLeodM1: that would be the worst

Okay we can stop with the negativity. You act like you don’t want it.

By “you” I wasn’t singling anyone out. Just in general.
