Mites 2012

I was recently admitted to the MITES 2012 program. I am SUPER EXCITED and can't wait for June 15. I wanted to see who else got in in order to get to know them before the start of the program. If past MITES students have any comments on their experiences, what was their favorite thing, and how it helped you for college, I would really appreciate it! Also, @MITChris I was wondering how many of the past MITES groups does MIT admit? Thank you!

There’s already a discussion made about MITES 2012:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1186921-mites-2012-information-discussion.html

I saw the fb group too… thank you :D

I’ve heard that the two aren’t really correlated. Although it seems to be so:
“Of 1,765 MITES alumni who have taken part in the program over the past 33 years, 34 percent (over 600 students) have matriculated to MIT. Those MITES students who attend MIT are consistently strong performers. Since its inception, the graduation rate of MITES alumni at MIT is as much as 12 percentage points higher than that of minority students who did not have the privilege of attending MITES. A recent analysis found MITES students graduated with grade point averages comparable to the majority population.
Of the 62 students who attended MITES 2006, 29 (47% of the class) enrolled at MIT in the fall of 2007. Other highly-ranked universities welcomed MITES alumni: Stanford (7), Princeton (5), Harvard (5), Columbia (2), and Yale (1).”
-From the Wikipedia page for MITES. It may or may not be recent or even accurate.

But what you need to know is that getting accepted to MITES doesn’t (or wasn’t supposed to) increase the chance that you will get into MIT. You got into MITES because you demonstrated the capability to take on the rigor of courses and you fit into the criterion of the program. Be proud of that and don’t get hinged upon MIT as your only goal -continue to work hard! ^.^ I kind of want to see what @MITChris has to say, though. I got into MITES, too; I never really considered MIT as a school (because of the difficulty of admissions and the price) but we shall now see…

I love MITES. It’s my favorite program at MIT. Congrats!

Hey! I got in too! I’m looking forward to it. I’ve read other reviews and heard this program is really good.

Congratulations! I look forward to meeting you in person this summer  Here is a link to the facebook group: [Log In | Facebook](MITES 2012 | Facebook) :)
