Hey everyone! I’ve seen other threads like this for every year and then realized that one for this year’s MITES hadn’t been opened. This could be moral support for one another.
Thanks for creating the thread! I would love to attend MITES. One of my friends is a Freshman at Rice and going to MITES completely changed his life. He had good grades, but didn’t really think he was ‘smart enough’ for many universities. How far from the truth! Last year, he was able to take his pick from schools like Rice and Cornell!
I think that’s all of our fears- not being smart enough; or accomplished enough.
When do you think the application is coming online?
@arinuma Mid/Late November is my best guess.
I’m not even sure I have a chance at this program because I’m not even taking math this year. :)) I was supposed to be in Calc BC and was put in Statistics due to scheduling issues. My teacher for pre-calc last year told me it would be better to miss a year of math now because I was going to run out of math classes anyway.
One of the essays is optional where you tell them whatever you want you could tell them why you aren’t taking math there
Yeah @Hamlon they have to understand if you’ve been taking real hard classes before. I’m kind of confused about which grades I’d send in because before May of this year; I was abroad, going to an IGCSE school. High school starts in seventh grade over there- so would I send in my grades from the seventh grade or just my grades from ninth?
If they’re only counting grades from ninth then :)) I’m screwed for college admissions! I only took history classes in seventh and eighth grades. But that’s a discussion for another thread.
It sure is quiet in here!
The application hasn’t come out yet, when in past years, it was out by now…
The application is out now!
My friend already finished his application…
MITES 2017 forum is sooooo dead. MITES 2016 alum here so if anyone has questions feel free to ask.
Hahaha I guess it is quite dead! I am planning on applying, but the only thing is that I am interested in biological sciences; however, I really like math. Would I fit in at all or do they want mainly engineering types?
You’d fit in just fine. I went into the program wanting to study biological sciences too, but left wanting to study mathematics. MITES has something for all students interested in STEM.
@FirstGenSloth How was your experience?
@FirstGenSloth Also, will it hurt to have a 1330 SAT? I took it for the first time in October and don’t have time to retake it before the app is due…
Hi guys, another MITES '16 here.
Hope I can be of help (to answer questions AND to keep this discussion alive geez lol)
Hey so I’d like to apply, but I’m not the very best at physics and I haven’t taken chem or bio, but I really like mathematics and I’d love to attend MITES. Do you think a B in a science class is a bad sign for MITES?
@CIRCUITDEBATER Just one B won’t kill you. It would all be a matter of context, wouldn’t it? You should apply.
I’m going to apply as well. Hey @FirstGenSloth I contacted you before I’m so glad to hear from you. I’m actually curious to know why this thread is so silent. Last years thread bloomed !!!
