Mites

Hey,
I am spanish and have a mexican last name which can get me into MITES as an "underrepresented minority", but I was wondering if this program is any good? Does it look good on college apps if you put MITES, or will they think lesser of you becasue you went the easy way out and did a summer program for minority students?

Also, can non-minorities apply?

MITES is an amazing program. Definitely one of the most prestigious out there. It’s low acceptance rates (historically under 15%, and last year, under 7%). It definitely looks awesome on college applications. Most MITES alumni end up at MIT (naturally), but also go to Stanford, up Mass Ave to Harvard, Columbia, and other prestigious universities. It’s not considered an easy way out, and it’s a tough, rigorous and worthwhile program. And it’s free. If a program can offer you and 70 other kids six weeks at a prestigious institution for free, it’s saying something.

Definitely apply. Best six weeks of my life for sure. Hopefully, I don’t sound like a homer lol.

Okay sick…I was just wondering because it says its meant for minorities if I shouldn’t apply. I definitely will though, thanks :)

so this program is only for URMs?
does anyone know if its the same for SAMS?

It’s not just for URMs, but it’s super hard for ORMs to get in. 4ish of my class of 71 were not URMs.

I’m sure SAMS is the same way.
