MIT's GPA Consideration

I am currently a junior at a school that grades on a 6 point scale (AP 6, Honors 5, Regulars 4 for an A). My weighted GPA is 4.6, but my unweighted GPA is 3.55. HOWEVER, the issue is that I was part of this schools Junior High (7th and 8th grade) and I took some high school classes during those grades. Unfortunately I did horrible in those years (B's and C's) and the majority of my low GPA is due to this. These grades ARE calculated into the GPA that appears on my transcript AND my grades in 7th and 8th grade show up on my transcript. Ever since I realized the error in my ways in Freshman years I have been beating myself up about my grades in 7th and 8th grade and feeling that I have ruined my chances at the top colleges. My GPA for HIGH SCHOOL would be something like 4.9/3.8 If they did not calculate 7th and 8th grade.

My question is, do they take your unweighted GPA directly off of your transcript, or do they calculate it themselves based on your classes. Also, will they see those grades for "Pre-Ninth Grade" on my transcript and judge me based on those?

(Also: First post! :D)

Even with a 4.9/6 weighted GPA and a 3.8/6 unweighted GPA, your chances are very low for MIT. Focus more on matches, safeties, and reasonable reaches. MIT seems a bit unreasonable unless you have other hooks. If you post your stats, perhaps people here can suggest some schools for you.

Well, first of all its 3.8/4 for unweighted. And 4.9 is with A’s in 10 APs. The thing is with a 6 point scale you cant get anywhere CLOSE to 6 because you would have to take ALL AP’s since freshman year. The valedictorian’s GPA averages around 5.1 (thats straight A’s with 12 AP’s). Also: You didn’t answer my question which was whether or not they would calculate the GPA themselves. Honestly, I do not feel that it’s appropriate to completely deter someone from applying to a school when first the poster was not ASKING what people thought of their chances (I know that MIT is a reach, but it’s a reach for everyone and you never know unless you try). Anyways, I’ll post my stats for the more considerate

GPA in highschool: W:4.9/6 UW:3.8 (AP is 6, Straight A’s with 12 AP’s gets you a 5.1)
Projected GPA at the end of 1st semester senior year: W:5.1 UW: 3.9
ACT: Took on saturday, no results yet; However, Scored 35 consistently on Practice exam and feel the same about the exam.

AP’s: Taken: 3 completed, 4 in progress, 5 next year. Total of 12.
Completed: AP Human Geography 5, AP World History 5, AP Chemistry 5
In progress: AP Calculus AB, AP Physics B, AP Composition and Language, AP U.S History
Next Year: AP Physics C, AP Computer Science, AP Economics (Macro/Micro), AP Biology, AP Environmental Science

EC’s:
NHS
Scholastic Bowl: 9th/10th grade, quit to pursue passion of Engineering
Captain of FTC and FRC First robotics team.
Deans List Award for FIRST Robotics, only given to two students per team
Founder of Computer Forensics Club which competes in NYU-Poly’s CSAW
Boy Scouts: Current Life Scout, with Eagle Scout expected in the spring
Summer: Boy Scouts service project in Colorado mountains, 2 weeks

I know that MIT is a far reach, but one can dream… You never know until you try.
