MIT's "Visibility on the Web"

Just read about this via Taiwanese media.

Spanish study measures colleges' web presence via Google, Yahoo, MSN Live!, Exalead (why Exalead?), and Google Scholar.

Not super scientific, but which ranking is? =p

Relax! (before a flame war starts, haha)

World Universities' ranking on the Web: top 6000 World Ranking

WOW!
I think MIT’s #1 ranking is due to a huge contribution done by its blogs.

Hardly. Besides the sheer scientific output, a good portion of it is because of the accessibility of its course materials to the public, through OCW, YouTube, etc.

I’m not surprised. OpenCourseWare really is awesome and it’s virtually impossible not to find something interesting when you visit the home page. Personally, I love how the color scheme changes daily, to ‘call attention to each new spotlight.’

Very true indeed… BTW doesn’t MIT have like a tv channel?

MIT is very big into the “freedom of information” thing. The blogs are only one small part of that- there’s a youtube channel, an online TV channel (TechTV), the blogs, OCW…I know the blogs are the most obvious web presence to a lot of readers on this site, but remember that admissions is only a small part of a large university such as MIT.

Wasn’t the GNU project started at MIT?

heck yeahhh, MIT!!!
I actually haven’t heard too much about TechTV…I’ll have to check it out.
