Mixed admission chances

Hello everyone,

Im sure you see these posts all the time, but as the deadline for apps approaches its hard to resist.

I have a 3.75 GPA
1390 SAT Score (taking it again in December)
An upward trend in my grades.

Based on these facts, do you think I have a shot of getting in? It really is my dream school.

Your SAT is above the 75th percentile and UC GPA is within range. I would say a Match/High Match school.
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCSC: 1170-1380
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79: UCSC: 59%

Do you think my lower GPA is made up by my SAT score? or is it not high enough

Here is what UCSC consider important in their application review. UC’s tend to be very GPA focused, but I think if your essays are very good, your chances are good.

  • Santa Cruz

  • Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores, State residency
  • Important: Character/personal qualities, Extracurricular activities, First generation college student, Geographical residence, Talent/ability
  • Considered: Volunteer work, Work experience
  • Note: Test scores, GPA in required subjects most important. Personal statement very important.

You’ll be fine, as long as your ECs and essays are up to par.

Thanks. My gpa is actually 3.81, I calculated it wrong.
