so i'm a mix of african american/native american on my father's side, and spanish on my mother's side. i've always been encouraged to apply for many minority scholarships, i've also always been conflicted as to how much people look at the actual colour of your skin. while other mixed people (like halle berry) look "minority-esque" -- if you will-- i seem to have inherited no genes from that side of the family. i am pale, green eyed, and if it weren't because of my afro-like hair, no one would ever be able to tell i was mixed. so of course, i'm conflicted (possibly with unfoundedly so) as to how much i qualify for minority scholarships.
anyone else have this conflict?

well with american indian, I think a person has to prove they have approximately 10 percent american indian in their makeup. It might be something similar to that with other minority groups.

It isn't so much exactly what you look like- if you are mixed- and you identify with others who are mixed- you are still a minority and should take advantage of scholarships designed to aid you to attend college.

Re Native Americans-
the actual percentage of "native blood", depends on the particular tribe.
I know people who have red hair who are on tribal rosters. They don't look "Indian" at all! ;)
