Mixed Opinions. Need Help!

Hey Everyone,
Im a Caucasian Male from Long Island.
I attend a Public school that sends maybe 2-3 to Ivys and other elite schools.

Now My Unweigted GPA is around a 91 right now.
And my weighted GPA is around a 97.

I hve taken the most rigourous courseload throughout highschool including 8 APs by Senior Year and Syracuse University Spanish.

I have only taken the Act once and recieved a 28.
I know thats not great but I am confident that I can raise it to a 31-33.

I also recived a 690 on the U.S. HIstory Subject Test.

EC'S
-Music is my passion.
-I play Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxiphone, Piano, And Guitar.
-I have been in my schools Wind Ensemble for 3 years and have been 1st chair. While I have been a member, we have traveled to Virginia, Boston, and most recently out of the country to Toronto to compete. We have recieved Superior ratings every time.
- I have also been in my Jazz Band for 2 years and have been lead Alto Saxophone. Once again we have competed in the above competitions and have recieved similar results.
-I auditioned for All State Jazz and recieved a score of 96/100.
-Im also in my schools marching Band for 3 years and we have competed at Hofstra University.
-I play piano privately, and was accepted into the National Piano Guild.

I also play Varsity Soccer, and I am the Captain for the upcoming year.

I may make All League and or All County, however I have not been recruited.

-Every Christmas, I sponser a toy drive for the homeless at Little Flower.
-IM also a member of the Honor Society as well as the Spanish Honor Society and Interact Club.

Now I have been hearing from parents and various other ppl that I am qualified for Ivys, etc. However I find myself intimidated by the genius' on this board, even though I feel that I am strong academically, and have a strong, focused extra curriculars. I most likely will be sending in a CD of my jazz playing and hopefully that will help. With that I plan on applying to

Thats pretty much my list now.
I have not decided what I want to major in yet, but seomthing along the lines of Political Science, INternational Affairs or English.
Along with that I am strongly considering Double Majoring or MInoring in Music.
So in closing, does anyone have any sugestions of schools that are predominatly in the Northeast, have good academics, and a good undergraduate music department?

Thank you guys so much for your time.

I also forgot to mention I am a first generation college student.
And also I was interested in applying to the Eastman School of Music.

ONce again,
THanks guys.

Congratulations on your achievements.

Now, you know, I imagine, that you're applying to quite a few reach schools, including your ED choice. Make sure taht your more matchy/safety (in your case, BC, BU, Northeastern, Geneseo, Syracuse, GWU, BU) schools are places you'd love to go to just in case you don't win this crapshoot admissions process. ;) The good thing, though, is that you can't lose it either, if you make a great list ahead of time.

Did you know that Tufts has a dual-degree program (BA or BS along with a BMus) from the New England Conservatory? Highly competitive, but worth a look if you're interested in a conservatory education along with a liberal arts education, too.

Thanks.
Would it be reasonable to say though that I may get into 1-2 of the reaches?

i think with a 28 ACT, you'd be lucky to get into one of your reaches (brown, columbia, penn, georgetown, tufts, jhu, nyu)

I agree -- you definitely need to bring up your ACT. The average at your reaches is all at LEAST 30/31. You also need to bring up your 690 on the SAT II.

If you were to look further north or south, I think you'd find some more viable options.

Bates, Bowdoin, or Sarah Lawrence which are SAT optional. Or UMiami/Rhodes/Rollins/Sewanee which would be more likely to accept your ACT score, but are still great schools.

I agree with SES. There are great-caliber schools that would not require an SAT or ACT score where you'd have a better chance.

You may also want to rethink your ED school, if you apply anywhere early, as Brown seems like a too-high reach. I don't want to discourage you of course, just my two-cents.

Ok well the 690 is really not an issue because since I will be submitting only the Act, I will not have to submit my Subject tests.

Also I thought that NYU would be more of a match for me.

And Lastly, im taking the Act again in September.Considering I do raise it to a 30-32, which I am pretty confident I will, how will that change my scenario in regard to my reach schools?

Bump 10 charrrrr

Ok well the 690 is really not an issue because since I will be submitting only the Act, I will not have to submit my Subject tests.

Um, I thought schools require additional subject tests. ACT can replace SAT I but not SAT II's.

Columbia requires two SAT IIs in addition to the ACT or SAT. So you'd actually need to take 2 more tests to cover that 690...
