http://www.actstudent.org/faq/answers/morethanonce.html Has ACT saying they don't support combining subscores. I called a major, selective private university about mixing/matching and they said that the ACT company told them that it is statistically unsound to be able to combine subscores from diff tests for a new composite.

This is the reason most schools look at highest composite rather than dealing with creating a new composite. Some schools want to boost their stats, though, which is why a very small portion of colleges mix n match.

washu definitely mix and matches

will a college mix and match between an sat and act? My ACT math was much higher than my SAT math-i have only taken the two tests once.

I clicked on the link you posted. It just says the ACT doesn't mix and match scores from different tests. Well, neither does the SAT. It is up to the schools to decide. Why would it be "statistically sound" to mix and match SAT scores and not ACT scores?

I called Duke University and asked if they mixed n matched ACTs. They said that the ACT advises them not to. I didn't read that link properly, you're right, it doesn't say that. But when I called Duke, they told me that's what ACT said and that helps to explain why so many schools just look @ highest composite.

I, too, was angry at how they allowed combining SAT but not ACT and thought it was bias of colleges, possibly. However, it is the testing agency, apparently.
