Hi, how is everybody. I got accepted into Mizzou (which I'm really excited about), but I was wondering something, I had some friends who went to Stephens women college and they said that the students from Mizzou and Stephens didn't get along, is that true? My younger sister (she is turning 16 in a few months) wants to go to Stephens women college, but she was worried about the social scene if it was true. So, it would be great if somebody could answer this question, please and thank you.

Also, I was wondering what the situation with bugs were, I was looking around inn this forum, and I saw one question to ask this, but it hadn't got any answers, so I decided to ask, since I was wondering also, are there any dangerous bugs on or around the campus, especially the dorms?. I never actually payed attention to bugs, but living in a dorm is different, so I would like to know for safety reasons. I tried searching google, but I never really got any answers that really helped me.

I’m not sure what you mean by “dangerous” bugs. Do you mean bedbugs? Do you have an allergy to bee stings? You might want to send an e-mail to Residential Life at Mizzou and ask them your question, but be clear about what you mean. If you are concerned that you might see a spider somewhere or encounter a mosquito outdoors, you might need to lighten up just a little. I have never heard my son, a Mizzou student, mention bugs–bedbugs or otherwise. The dorms there are clean and well maintained, though of course the cleanliness of students’ rooms is up to them.

I don’t know the answer to your Stephens College question, sorry.

Sorry about that, I did mean spiders; that is one of my phobias I have. I don’t mind them outdoors, because I can avoid them. But, when it comes to have to the dorms, I’m just worried about seeing them in the dorms, since I’m going to be living, sleeping there, I just want to make sure it’s going to be safe, etc.

As I know my daughter is also very afraid of any bugs / spiders, but I didn’t hear any complains from her last year, when she lived in the dorm ( Mark Twain). Though this year she has invasion of ladybugs in her apartment room … :-)

My daughter is just finishing her freshman year in one of the dorms and I’ve never heard her mention any bugs, nor have I seen any in any of the times I’ve been there.

To be quite honest, there are so few Stephens students (800 or so) that many Mizzou students (30,000 or so) will go through four years without ever meeting one. The exception might be fraternity guys on the east side of the Mizzou campus who may invite Stephens students to their parties. Or at least they did in the 1970s.

The conflicts that I do remember from that era were with affluent Stephens women–most of them equestrian majors–from the East Coast who considered themselves “better” than middle income Mizzou women who couldn’t afford to own and board a horse or to pay Stephens tuition.

The two schools could not be more different–even though their campuses are just a block apart.
