Who got it? Will you be attending?

I was so happy when I found out!
I’m still not sure if i’ll be attending Brandeis… though it seems pretty difficult to refuse

I got the MLK scholarship too!

First page said accepted, and second page said MLK scholarship, I said cool, some money

then the next page.> total amount of award -51,298
i nearly cried

i am soo happy i got it, and I think it is a very seductive deal :)

btw, I was wondering it this means that we get guaranteed on campus housing for all 4 years?

You know, I'm actually not sure.
I got this off the website: "HOUSING GUARANTEE
First-year students at Brandeis are guaranteed on-campus housing for their first four consecutive semesters. Midyear students are guaranteed on-campus housing for their first three consecutive semesters."

but i'm not sure about anything after that. the scholarship description says "Full tuition, room and board for four years."

we should probably email/call somebody from admissions

yeah, i will do that tomorrow, but i live in Hawaii, and the 6 hour time difference is kind of bad

ivan, are u deff gong to go due to the scholarship?

well it's really enticing, but i'm still not sure

the contenders for my education right now are: brandeis, northwestern, ucla, and wesleyan

still waiting to hear back from some more, but i think it'll end up coming down to this same group (not expecting many more acceptances)

i'm definitely going to make my parents take me to visit, though.

well im kind of poor so i will prob go to Brandeis

so far i have gotten into URochester, Boston College and a few others

waiting on Colgate,Tufts, Holy Cross, and Bowdoin

they are all similar types of educations, so i would be fine with brandeis

yeah, brandeis is a great school.
i just don't feel like i can decide to go when i've never visited any of the other schools (except ucla, which is in my backyard)

I just emailed somebody from financial aid. Will post when I have a reply. Also asked if there were any statistics as to what % of awarded MLK Scholars actually keep their award for 4 years, and if it was rare for an MLK Scholar to lose their scholarship.

alright thanks man!

congrats on your MLK--and acceptances--do you know what they based the MLK on?

according to the very nice letter informing me that i had gotten the scholarship:

"This award honors those students who are committed to the principles of Martin Luther King, Jr., including community service, equality, and social justice."

btw jorr08, in case you didn't know, i'm a wo-man. or girl. or lady. female. :) but if you said man just to say "man," that's okay too.

lol, it was more of a dude!!! kind of thing

but nice to meet u!

nice to meet you too!

ugh no response from brandeis yet

btw, do u have a Facebook?

"Students are only guaranteed housing for their first and second years, however, most students who wish to remain in campus housing for their third and final years are able to do so either through the lottery process or the waiting list. If you choose to live off-campus, you will still receive the full amount of the scholarship, which would be based on our average cost of on-campus room and board ($10,382 for 08-09), and you would receive a refund check to be used for off-campus room and board.

It is rare that an MLK Scholar loses the scholarship. As long as a cumulative GPA of 2.67 is maintained, the scholarship will be renewed each
year."

I got my response today!

Very exciting day, overall.

sweet.

i also got into Bowdoin, Tufts and Holy Cross, but none offered me as sweet a deal as Brandeis, so Brandeis it is!

i'm choosing from:

brandeis
northwestern
brown
columbia
princeton

(i got into others, too... but it looks like these are the only real contenders)

You two should both go to Brandeis. How can you turn down a school that wants you so much.

Forgive me if this is a ridiculous question, but is this scholarship only for African American students? I'm a junior and just wondering. Thanks!
