Excellent. All of those who are willing to do the work will receive one. Those that don't will only have themselves to blame. Remember the appointment at this point is their's to lose.
There will be some in the SA Prep program who are not AOG sponsored - they don't have the benefit of the sponsorship and must compete with the rest of the pool.

I agree with JustaMom that the 36 AOG sponsored cadets have an excellent chance of receiving an appointment to West Point. The AOG Program is a hell of a deal, but it is not a guarantee. Remember that you still have to receive a nomination from whatever source that can nominate you (the AOG folks sent a nice letter to my son's congresswoman encouraging her to nominate my son), pass the phyiscal fitness test and do well in school. MMI is not a blowoff type of school. My son was a National Merit Finalist and he had to work a lot more than he thought he would at MMI. With that said, the faculty was top notch. I would recommend that every cadet spend as much time as they can on their academics. You will be taking the exact same course at West Point and if you work hard at MMI your transition to West Point will be much easier. My son can not say enough good things about COL Bauer, COL Thornton and Commander Stevenson. They were all fantastic teachers that went the extra mile to help the AOG kids. So, what are my chances? My son was told that an AOG sponsored cadet's position in the next years class is his or hers to lose. Good luck...

good to hear, that is what I keep telling my son " it is his to lose" and he knows it. I guess that it is just in my nature to worry. he gave up a lot (over $90,000.00 in scholarship offers to great colleges) for this opprotunity. We have sent in all of the nomination applications and the fitness test is no problem for him. I guess my biggest worry is the academics. my son pretty much skated thru high school and graduated with a 4.2 GPA. I keep telling him not to expect to be able to do that at mmi or usma. he rolls his eyes and says "I know mom" time will tell

they have been loading new info on the website the past couple of days - PM me and I will tell you how to log in and see your company, address etc...

djffro: You son will be in good company - a lot of kids gave up very good offers at very good schools to go to MMI.

"there is going to be 36 aog sponsored cadets there this year, what are the chances that they will all receive appointments?"

The WPPSP (WP Prep Scolarship Program) does not guarantee admission to USMA, but the intent of the program is to admit all students in the progam providing they complete the requirements and perform academically. Historically over 80% of candidates who have completed the program have been offered admission. Academic performance is the major factor in determining whether an offer is made.
Good luck to all of the candidates, it really is a great opportunity.

From the letter from the WPPSP:
[quote]
If you participate in the WPPSP you will be in a unique category. Basically you will not be competing against candidates for next year's entering class. Your goal will be to convince the USMA Admissions committee that you can do well in a rigorous college curriculum. Although each candidate in the program will be evaluated individually next spring, your chances of being offered admission to West Point in 2008 are excellent. We cannot guarantee this because you have to perform well throughout the scholarship year. However, over the past 27 years, more than 85% of the candidates completing the preparatory year in the program have been offered admission"

For those who perform well academically, pass the CFA again, remain medically qualified and stays out of trouble then that percentage is increased dramatically.
Last year at MMI every AOG scholar received an appointment to West Point. Since they only offer scholarships to those who have potential and desire to "convince the USMA Admissions Committee that you can do well in a rigorous college curriculum" - the appointment is their's to lose.
