aangel: MMSS was founded in 1978.

I have a question for the acceptees. When you guys got the email with the link, did it take you directly to your decision or did it take you to a general portal, in which you had to type your login/password?

directly to the decision

^Thanks.

aangel,

NU seems to have a habit of being the pioneer for multidisplinary programs/curriculum.
Besides MMSS, here are some other examples:
First materials science department in the world (1955)
First combined BS/MD program in the US (1961)
First university transportation center in the US (1954)
Integrated Science Program (1976)
Engineering First (1997)

Kellogg MBA was the first to recognize the importance of “teamwork” as well as “team leadership” and to incoporate them into the MBA curriculum.

NU also got the unique Kellogg certificate; it’s the first and only undergrad business program consisting of only graduate-level courses.

If I recall correctly, the acceptance was in the email itself my year.

Decisions are officially out!

My D got in… but she had already decided to turn down NU. Kind of bittersweet. It’s an amazing school, and I’m grateful she had the opportunity even though she’s decided to go another way… most likely Pomona or a less well known LAC with lots of merit money.

Finally admitted!!!So excited abt it!!

Just a general question: I heard that MMSS students don’t typically take their freshman seminars during the fall quarter of their freshman year - is that true? If so, when do they typically take it/what is the general course load of an MMSS student like in the fall and winter quarters of freshman year?

They don’t. Half during winter, half during spring. Courseload doesn’t really change unless you select classes otherwise (i.e. 5 classes)

MMSS reject here, and couldnt be happier about it. I’m now a junior Econ major (couple minors) and being rejected by MMSS is the best thing that happened to me at NU for a few reasons. 1) it is F**KING HARD - just be prepared for that, in hindsight theres no way I could do MMSS and pull off a good GPA. 2) If you just do plain Econ you can still do any job you want - going through OCR I got pretty much every interview and landed one of the best internships of my class. Two of my friends that are in MMSS and wanted to do banking pretty much struck out in OCR while me and another just plain econ guy landed two top internships

Main point - MMSS is great if you can do the crazy high level math, but you wont be at a disadvantage if you your just Econ

I’m really excited about this program. I just had a question about how the number of internships/job opportunities specifically for this program (and econ in general) and if it is possible for someone to get an internship after the first year (or is it mostly for sophs and juniors)?

Bump
