I heard that the most reliable phone service with the best connection is AT&T. No to even bother with Verizon or others. Is this true? Should I change my phone service to AT&T in order to get high quality phone connections?

True, I wouldn't change unless you don't mind garnering all of those horrendous fees.Even T-Mobile (notoriously bad for service) customers can find service within 1 minute of holding up your phone like some sort of life Statue of Liberty.

AT&T has the only cell tower on campus. My experience with T-mobile was that it's spotty at best. Branner had terrible to no reception.

While visiting Stanford during Accepted students weekend, with my daughter, our Alltel 'National Freedom' service worked fine when used on campus. I didn't walk around trying all corners of the school though. If our family plan wasn't the 'National Freedom' plan, we would have racked up serious ROAM charges. I just checked our account and all was normal.

I had asked the same question before...and my son and I did some searching on the web....we confirmed the fact that AT&T has the best service at Stanford and since it's really important to us to stay connected, we ended up switching from Verizon to AT&T....I'm actually glad we did now, because already I'm getting better reception in our area in WA state....in places that Verizon was ok but spotty. So maybe the slogan they have now is true..."more bars in more places"! Here's a link to a site that helped us make our decision...

Cell Phone Carriers - Cell Phone Service and Tower Search

Also, we may be interested in getting an iPhone in the future, and currently AT&T is the only carrier that iPhone works with...I think, anyway...

Hope this info helps!

Cheers!

Att will give you a discount of $10.00 if you're a stanford student/family. Info is in the approaching stanford booklet

Note: The tower search function of the website noted in link #5 is very incomplete for our area. Not sure I would assume this site is a reliable source for cell phone service info.

AT&T, Cingular and Sprint works best on campus. Verizon works but is spotty and T-Mobile simply can't find a signal.
