moc interview

hi, im new to the west point forum.

i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on how to prepare for the moc interview and what i could expect. mine's on saturday.

thanks!

p.s. i have an loa, but according to the person that scheduled my interview, it makes no difference b/c i still need to do really well to get the nomination.

Let them know that you have a LOA, but don't let that go to your head. You aren't guaranteed a nomination because of it. Be sure you are prepared to answer questions about why you want to go to West Point. Show that you have some knowledge of the place because they may ask you what you know about BCT or something like that. They may try to pin you with a question on current events, they asked me about my beliefs about torture. Just stick to what you believe in, not what you think they want to here. If you go with what you think they want you to here, you will get tripped up in a lie. They tried to trip me up but luckily I knew exactly what I felt about the issue. They will ask you about leadership experience, or whatever extracurricular stuff you told them about too. However, this is just my experience. Yours will be somewhat similar, but all of them are different. Good luck!

HERES MY POST FROM THE USAFA BOARD "I GOT AN MOC"

EXPLORE THE OTHER ACADEMY BOARDS THEY HAVE TONS OF GOOD INFO FOR MOC INTERVIEWS.

HEY!
My MOC is Duncan Hunter CA 52. I had my interview nov. 8. originall it said about 20 mins for the interview but it lasted 5-10. there were 5 people on my board and each asked a ?. the ?s that i remember were somthing along the lines of:

What do you plan on majoring in?

What is your intended career? If you can't do that which other job would you have?

Do you want to make the military your career or do 5 and get out?

(i visited my sis at WP and included it in the app) Do you like WP is there anything you disliked?

(i just moved from vegas to san diego) Which do you like better and why?

What does integrity mean to you?

Lastly, there was a ? about a club that I was in and what I had done in it.

It wouldn't hurt to bring a resume, but they have two copies of my app packet in their hands and passed them around as they asked questions. Mine went well I got a nomination to WP.

oo this is a good thread. I have my congressperson interview on Saturday, so ive been shopping this week for dressy clothes. How bad would it be if i showed up in West Point colors? black pants and shirt, gold tie, gray sweater.

that would be good. wear a suit top though all of the boys in my district came in suits or dress uniforms.

i live in the bay area, we have style.

haha kidding, im thinking something like this but different colors:
http://www.bananarepublic.com/Asset_Archive/BRWeb/Assets/Outfit/006/OUT00655/outfit/br-otf-out00655odv01.jpg

so you think that + blazer?

i would def. suggest blazzer. the outfit is gorgeous, but i was gonna try just dress pants and a sweater but i decided to wear my mom's short dress coat with it. such a good idea! there were 5 men on my board and all were in their fancy suits with ties and gold clips. i would have felt really underdressed! the kid who came out before me had like a dry cleaned whole suit outfit with like polished shoes. i know my cadet commander from CAP also did the whole AF dress uniform. (ahhh!)

GOOD LOUCK WITH YOUR INTERVIEW!!!!! thats about all the info i have. has anyone heard from CA senators?

shoot, i thought i was gonna be able to make it through this mess for under $150.

the idea factory just called, they say I'll just borrow a friend's blazer.

alright i have my dads shoes and a gold tie... now for a blazer..

Color coordination, never even thought of that. Opens up a whole new world though, hah. Dont want to hijack the thread or anything but i'm going to be off to an interview for Senator Schumer in a few weeks, from those who have been to both a Representatives nomination interview and a Senatorian nomination interview, did you notice any differences?

My senate one was smaller and I had to travel much farther to get to it... I guess also there was a Active Duty person on the board for senate, and not for rep. Other than that...it was later...that's about it

Alright sounds good, appreciate the input.

my dad said its good interview ettiquette to send a thank-you letter to them... that sounds really lame. should i send one?

does sound lame... i'd be interested to know if we should.

a thank-you letter is never lame. And it gives you a chance to recover from anything you might have misspoken during the interview and to re-state emphatically you desire and reasons for wanting to be an Office in the U.S. Army.

And once you get to a service academy, you'll be writing thank you notes. It is not at all lame. For example when you go to your sponsor's home for dinner or to do laundry, you will send a thank you note. Also, during Beast, after the ice cream social, you will most definitely send a thank you note to the sponsor. Finally, it is proper to send a thank you note after any job interview. Might as well get used to it.

One of the things they teach you in (fill in the blank) summer is how to write a proper thank you note. It's part of your etiquette training and something you'll need to learn. Not lame at all.

Jamz sent thank you's after his interviews. He got 5 nominations and then wrote thank you's again. We live in the South & it is expected. We write thank you's for someone moving out of your way in the grocery store. :)

who do you send them to??
your contact in the office? or to the individual members of the board?

I haven't ever heard of this... I am infinitely grateful for the advice.

Jamz sent them to the Senator's & Congressmen's offices. He also got one from JROTC so sent one to the guy who nominated him.
