MOC Nominations

While I was looking at my MOC's website today I peeked at last year's nominations. He had nominated three or four candidates for both the USMA and USAFA, as well as two for the USMMA. However, I was surprised to see that not one USNA nomination was given out. I am a junior in high school who is applying to all of the summer seminar programs. The USAFA and USNA are my top two choices. I am from Illinois which is definitely not close to any major ocean. Would it be wise for me to pursue a USNA nomination over a USAFA one? I also just looked at my neighboring congressman's website. He too did not nominate a USNA candidate. Any suggestions?

Just to clarify ...our MOC only makes public his nominations that ultimately receive an appointment. It sounds pretty unusual that Illinois would have NO nominees from your MOC's slate. Heck, he could probably sell them.  ;)

HAHAHAHA!! :D I just laughed so hard during my computer class :D That was a good one lol

flyersboy ...I just KNEW I liked you! :) :p

btw, you get "A" on your Current Events quiz this day!

haha

At first I didnt know if I liked you.... haha jk :D

Seriously though that Governor is wacked

that's just about the same thing my wife said when we met (she's working on her problem) ...and my Mid says about every other day. And he modifies your latter statement to "that Dad is wacked."

He's learning every day though, thanks to his USNA education, that I'm no worse than any other schizophrenic sociopath ... :p

This is only for my congressman. Not both of my senators, I haven't taken the time to see if they released them last year or not. And our Governor, honestly I have no comment :)

Whistle- HAHAHA thats so funny :D

Hunter- I know what it feels to have a wacked govenor, Corzine is only a little better.... D:

I just got mine!!! pumped. how many candidates are 3'qd and nomination. I know that they offer 1500 appointments, and the 3 q'd numbers, and the nom numbers but not the combined. thanks!!

Congrats! Good luck on the appointment!

Zanerdude,
On the USNA website, Admissions page, click "Steps for Admission", then look at "10. Selection and Deadlines," and you will see that approximately 2000 are 3 Q'd AND have a nomination.

apply to all of your nomination sources, and to the academy(s) to which you wish to attend. If you will be applying to more than one academy, then apply for a nomination for each. Leave no stone unturned in this process, no matter how remote it may seem right now.

You can't base what nom slots are available next year on what was available this year. There are many reasons that MOCs may have more than one vacancy at one or more SAs or, in some rare cases, may have zero. As 2010 says, apply to everything you can. Control what you can control and don't worry about things beyond your control.
