Is mock trial helpful? I am a freshman at the U of A and I am wondering is there better use for my time than mock trial. Would volunteering or joining another club be more beneficial?

I doubt that. I think Law School will only review your leadership record. Say you are participating the Mock Trial, but they might want someone who is the chairman of some kind of paintball club.

Mock trial is marginally helpful–and I’m sure it’s better than paintball club!

ECs aren’t that important at most law schools. Even at top ones, with the notable exceptions of Stanford and Yale, it’s only necessary to have enough ECs to show that you did more than study/eat/sleep during college.

Where mock trial is sometimes of help is answering the question of why you want to go to law school.

If the EC will cause your grades to decrease below an acceptable level to you, then don’t participate in them.
