I was looking at transfer school options for film like Brown’s mod cul media program. I am also looking at Boston University’s film/tv program, so I was wondering, in your opinion, how strong is Brown’s program? It’s not exactly a formally structured film program? But there’s many opportunities for production related work too it seems. I’d appreciate any insight you have into the program!

ok maybe i will get more responses if i ask it this way - does brown have any sort of film program at all?

a lot of people that do MCM and art semiotics go into film, but the approach very theory laden and different from what you'd get at an arts school

brown recently built new production facilities and hosts the annual ivy film festival so you are unlikely to miss out by not entering a formal film program.

I hear MCM is amazing and worth not going to a traditional film school for. Do you plan to submit any kind of film type stuff with your app? I'm trying to decide if I should.

Hi,

My son is a senior Art Semiotics concentrator. He started out in MCM and switched 2nd sememster of Freshman year so that he would have better access to studio art classes. Both concentrations are very similar. Although both Art Semiotics and MCM are heavy in theory, there is a sufficient number of classes where you can write, direct and shoot your own pieces. (Believe me I have funded many projects!)

My son has no regrets that he chose Brown and has had a very positive experience. He has learned quite a bit of the technical aspect of film and intends to pursue a graduate degree either in Film or Writing (his other love and second concentration). He has had awesome professors.

At Brown you cannot go wrong with anything that you do....

Good luck!
