model un meetings

i'm wondering what goes on in your model un meetings, is there an agenda/routine u guys follow?

I'd like to know this also

depends ...during conf season or off-season

well, I assume that you don't do much if there is no conference to prepare for... so if you know there will be a big conference you will be attending in the Winter, what would your club meetings be like from right now until then? What do you guys do on a week to week basis in your clubs? Whats the agenda? What's the discussion?

We talk about FUNDRAISERS because we don't get any money from the school. Also, I generally run off how-to's for position papers, research, resolutions etc for the new people and go through that with them while the veterans can have time to research or talk or plan out conferences.

how do you plan out a conference?

Well, if two people are in the same committee, but representing different countries, they come up with strategies and alliances and questions to ask one another and things like that.

so it sounds like most of the work is around conference time (duh) but lol what about like 2+ months out of a conference? hmm i guess you'd simulate conference or sumthing work on projects.

My club sounds like silentsailor's. Sometimes my club gets together for simulation stuff, but not too often, since this is used more to initiate newbies. We usually have a session or two preconference where you can get help for reso or position paper writing and specific research, too. Week to week we talk about fundraisers, and occasionally take a look at various global topics or questions as a group if there's nothing else pressing to do. When we're getting ready for a conference that's, like, 2 months down the line, most of what happens is research, question periods, and strategizing, besides just paying attention to world news.

how do you strategize?

that all depends on your res

We're in the same boat as silentsailor, although I've met kids at conferences who spend six hours a day researching and prepping with their club every school day before the conference (this one girl had 350 pages of highlighted notes at home, in addition to one of those ridiculous file folder/briefcase things stuffed to the brim with papers that she brought with her).

Hahah at our Monday meeting we're having a t-shirt making party in honor of United Nations Day, which is Tuesday. We're puff-painting shirts...something a la "Have you hugged a delegate today?"

lol @ leah.

@Aspen, maybe you can give me an example of a res and the type of strategizing you would do? :)
