I have been reading a few of the stats on those who have been accepted already and I saw that many were involved in some activity/program/club known as the Model UN or Model Congress. I don't have one at my school. This seems like something I would be interested in. If someone could give me more information on what this is about or where I could get info [a site?], that would be great!

Thanks! :D

model un depends on whether your school sents a delegation to model un conference. I never heard of a single person participating without being part of school delegation.

you can go as a single person to model UN, but it is beyond expensive, and probably not worth it. a huge group of our girls got busted for drinking at model Un montreal in nov... they swore not to. now the school is doing some huge reevaluation of trips and stuff. arrrg. i guess my point is that a huge part of the model congress/un culture is drinking, and if you don't want to deal with that, don't go. i was planning on doing model stuff, but at the last minute i chose to do some other, cheaper activities, and leave it for college, where i bet the activities are much more valuble.

as a former model congress parliamentarian, id recommend it over model UN any day, unless you want to practice doing nothing. seriously though, model congress can be formed and done on campus without contacting any national organization, as there is none. if you are interested in actual model congress conferences to compete with other schools, you can contact other high schools in your area to see if one wants to host one, or colleges in your region to see if one of them holds any model congress conferences during the year. good luck.

how is model congress different from JSA [Junior Statesmen of American]??

thanks! :)

ive never actually heard of that program, but it sounds like at bare minimum that the JSA thing is a national affiliation while model congress is run independently at each school, with loose agreements among schools. i may be wrong as it applies to the status of JSA though.
