Anyone doing this. A program is starting in my area and I will be partcipating, representing Japan. Can anyone tell me about the program, or their experiences in it? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I just did the one in Hershey. I thought it would be interesting, but I was cynical about it and thought it would be corny. It was actually really fun. I met a lot of nice people and got to discuss world politics, which is something you don't normally discuss with friends at high school. The worst part about it was that the chicken made me sick, so I missed school today. Don't be afraid to speak your opinions, participate a lot, and maybe even write a resolution. This was my first year and I ended up writing a resolution by myself. Everyone kept praising it and it ended up getting passed with only one dissenting vote (Sudan, but that makes sense), and many people came over to congratulate me. Also, if you participate and make yourself recognized, you can be in a position to get elected to a leadership position now, or in the future. I got recognized for possible nomination as premier delegate (didn't make the final nominations for my group, but nice to be recognized) and am also in a position for leadership next year, so remember to participate a lot. Have a good time.

Model UN? No UN, he he. Seriously, though, good luck, I don't know much about it, but hope you have a good time doing it, I hear they are really good programs.

bump
MUN is SO much fun! I've been to SSUNS (in Montreal) twice, representing Medecins Sans Frontieres in 2003 and Sudan in 2004. At U of C's HSMUN 2004 I was Bahrain.
Tips....
1. Make block alliances. If you are a country from Africa... get all the other African countries to agree to vote with you. You said you were Japan... get Asian countries or developped countries to block vote with you.
2. Get people to yield their time to you when you have something to say but are way far down on the speaker's list. You get noticed that way.
3. Participate A LOT.
4. Write or co-write resolutions.
5. KNOW your topics and your country's opinions.
6. HAVE FUN!

i did it 4 the first time this yr. i didnt do 2 much to prepare for it, but i ended up having a lot of fun. its cool to see all these other smart people and to try to solve problems. my committee was militarization of outer space- a very interesting topic. My country was Mexico. I liked it alot we only did 1 though, im hoping we can go to another one in the spring.

Anyone going to NHSMUN in New York City in March?
