Model UN

how I can increase my chances of getting an award at a model un meet? my school is doing the harvard meet.

Do some research, be prepared to speak a lot-but intelligently, identify powerful people to hook up with at the conference, get your resos passed.

hey fire, i will be at Harvard Model UN too! i am from Eastern high school in NJ (we won best small delegation last year)....to increase your chances of getting an award, make sure you know your "stuff"....although a profound knowledge is preferable, you dont need to know everything about your topic; just know the jist of it....the most important thing you cna do is speak a lot....i have chaired before (for smaller model UNs), and i know that it is VERY hard to pay attention to every word that is spoken by every delegate...when i had to give out awards, i chose the speaker who spoke the most and SEEMED the most impressive....honestly, awards are all about how you are perceived by the chair, rather than what you truly know/say....just make sure you speak A LOT and make sure you are a leader in committee....good luck!

by the way, i am in UNCTAD representing USA (cuz we won last time - boo ya!), what committe are you in?

bump any other tips?? :)

I Really Wanna Get An Award And Get My Resolution Passed!! Thanks :)

gettings resolutions passed is easy. i've gone to the georgetown conference for the past 2 years and was in an ecosoc sub-committee each time and i was a sponsor (and actively helped write it) for almost all the resolutions, either that or a signatory at the least.

but i don't know about the harvard meet, but getting one at georgetown is INSANE. but talk, participate, but don't ramble too much. but best way to get an award is really to get out there and be vocabl. it really is a fine line and present your points effectively but don't keep reiterating them over and over again.

good luck! :)
