I'll respond to who I am in a PM, for obvious reasons :)
Yes, I showed my passion for politics, government, speaking, and debating in most of the essays I wrote. Is the GPA that bad? Question for Stanford: Do I [seemingly] have a better chance there because my rank and GPA are much higher than my rank and GPA at the other schools? I feel I wrote great essays to the schools I really wanted to go to [Colum, Stan, Nwest, UChic, WashU]. Could these tied with very good recommendations, test scores, and emphasis on a clear field of study boost my chances enough to permit any of those schools to be in reach? Thanks!

intern for the attorney general sounds like a great internship...
seriously

Could someone rate all my schools chances?...
Suze says no chance, the others say shoe-in for all but Stanford and Columbia.
Crossroads...

kind of O/T:

It's been a long time since I've hung around the Chances thread, & rarely posted even then (mostly lurked). But my question is, are people opening posts to prepare themselves for impending decisions? (In the past, students mostly started these to help narrow or expand a college list in progress.)

In any case, Oedipus, I think you can expect good results from:
Northwestern
Rochester U
NYU
Penn State
probably Chicago

Probably a couple of others, too.

I think Georgetown, Columbia, Stanford, and even Rice are real reaches. What people forget, that even though the "upward trend" is always impressive, it is mostly a swing consideration for the non-top-tier. That's because the top-tier will get overwhelming #'s of applicants whose GPA's have always been "up." If an upward trend applicant has a huge hook (like URM or recruited athlete or renown artist), then the odds improve, but that doesn't look like your situation.

The other thing that people forget is that even matches & safeties can turn into rejections if the application, including statement of purpose, essay, etc. are not up to the standard the U is receiving from other applicants. For example, Northwestern & Chicago would expect a really quality app. Plenty of people have blown off these kinds of choices by considering them safeties & not putting effort into them.

So if you're confident of the app. you submitted, then you can judge more confidently by "numbers."

Only our Val, with a high 3.9 (consistent) GPA got into Georgetown last year, and this is a well-known high-profile private h.s. And lots of wannabe Ivy students apply to places like G-town & even JHU as match/safeties, which ramps up the competition.

I have a question

is top 3% (10/334) good for top schools? like would it be average, below average, or above for the regular applicant to those schools?
