Modern campus

Ok we have had threads about most beautiful campus..now what about the most modern campus(in term or architecture).

LMU and Pepperdine

UCLA has many buildings that are not only pretty but also pretty new/modern.

Skidmore
Rochester Institute of Technology

(neither one is GREAT)

George Mason U

I haven't seen it but my impression is Hampshire, also.

Both relatively new schools.

UMBC...regrettably and perfectly modern. An icon, as such things go.

Olin College if that is your thing...

Hampshire College has a very modern campus. Also, UMass Amherst's architecture is pretty modern with its large, monolithic buildings of cement said to be reminiscent of something Mussolini would design.

...or WWII pill-box bunkers.

Illinois Institute of Technology was designed by Mies van der Rohe and is considered a great example of Modernism.

Brandeis is extremely modern, but this modernity clashes with surrounding Waltham, and even if Waltham weren't there, it would still be pretty ugly...

why would u want a modern campus?

Some people like modern architecture. I see modern architecture like synthesizers in music. When used tastefully and integrated properly into their surroundings, they can really bring out a nice touch, but when employed haphazardly, create an architectural monstrosity (or, in our musically charged metaphor's case, a Wang Chung-style album...)

Rochester Institute of Technology, as stated previously, has a great modern campus

nothing quite like assymetric concrete and steel to make the heart go bumpety bump.

I said when integrated properly.

Haha. Personally, I find some modern buildings pretty cool. I love how impressive a building with a glass facade looks (and some modern architecture is really in tune with the surroundings...ex. there is a concert hall that is built out of glass, and it slopes down into a harbor, so all you see is blue behind the performer...pretty sweet), or something neat and clean like that. That's not to say I wouldn't want pretty brick buildings and grass and etc. etc. I just don't find modern buildings repulsive in all situations. So I agree with HeavenWood.

MIT has some interesting contempory buildings.

I actually really liked Brandeis's campus when I went. It had a very open meadowy feel to it. The giant green wall in the student center is slightly odd, but I could have gotten used to it.

Skidmore has modern buildings in a very pretty setting. However, it does resemble a suburban office park. Kind of strange for a college that is big on creativity - maybe they are trying to overcome the uninspiring architecture?
